Today's Devotional
Several years ago, a friend gave me a copy of Gary Keller’s book “The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth About Extraordinary Results.” During this Lenten season, as I have been reading and reflecting on the life and works of Paul, it has become clear to me that Paul’s life work is evidence of someone who obtained results.
While Paul never heard of Keller’s book, he was proficient at answering what Keller terms the “Focusing Question,” which asks, "What's the ONE Thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?"
After Paul’s Damascus Road experience, he excelled at letting go of unnecessary things and became single-mindedly focused on knowing Christ Jesus.
Paul’s life witness has reminded me of the many distractions that have trickled into my life that drain valuable time. For instance, my cell phone has become more than an instrument of communicating with family and friends. Rather, I have found myself using it to read news articles and information shared through various social media platforms from people I have never met and will never meet.
Is that necessary? Sure, these things can be amusing, fun and sometimes informative. But is it necessary? Will this information add value to my or someone else’s life? And perhaps more importantly will it bear fruit for God’s kingdom on earth?
