Hi Sweet Friends,

When my channel reached over a million subscribers a few months ago, I received the YouTube Gold Creator Award. That was such an honor, and I want to thank you, my sweet friends, for helping me reach this milestone. You subscribed to my channel and learned how to make recipes in your traditional foods kitchen. I'm so glad we're on this traditional foods journey together! 😊

I also want to thank Sean Cannell and his Think Media team for their advice on how to structure my content to best serve you. And I'm excited to announce that I'll be speaking at Sean's Grow with Video Live conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, from April 24-26, 2024! I'll be on a panel discussion to share my experience building my YouTube channel and how to help you grow yours.

They'll have lots of workshops, Q&A sessions, and breakout rooms for you to learn about the latest strategies to help your growth on YouTube and business in general. You'll also find speakers you know and love, such as Dave Ramsey and Sean Cannell.

Lastly, in this newsletter, I share some of my videos that have over a million views, and I talk about some of the changes I've made to my video thumbnails and recipe posts to help you understand how to make a recipe and what the final dish looks like as you start to learn about the recipe.

Recipe Videos with Over a Million Views

On my YouTube creator's journey, I have made several videos that have garnered over a million views. Here are two you may enjoy, especially if you like making homemade food since you can control the taste and ingredients.

Bring a little luck of the Irish and traditional foods into your kitchen this St. Patrick's Day with my bestselling book, The Modern Pioneer Cookbook. You'll get detailed recipes for how to make traditional foods, including bone broth, cultured dairy, ferments, sourdough, and more. Discover for yourself how you can use simple ingredients and traditional techniques to cook the modern pioneer way.

If you already have my book, please leave me a book review where you bought your book or on GoodReads. Booksellers will use your five-star reviews to recommend my cookbook to others, which will help them learn about traditional foods and techniques for their home kitchens. Thanks so much!

Update: Penguin Random House's Farm to Table Spring celebration features my cookbook and videos! They also show new gardening books you may enjoy.

Thank you for Being a Sweet Friend

How do you like my new video thumbnails?

As I mentioned in my 2024 channel update, many of my sweet friends have asked me to show more pictures of the foods I've been making in my videos. So, instead of waiting until the latter part of the video to show you the finished recipe, I've been highlighting pictures of the dish at the beginning of my videos and making it easier to see the recipe results in the video thumbnail.

I split the thumbnails of my older videos between the name of the recipe or video on the left side and a picture of me with the food or activity on the right side. This approach made it easy to spot my thumbnail on YouTube, especially if you're a regular viewer and are used to seeing my thumbnails in a scrollable list.
Image of the New and Old Video Thumbnail Styles
Unfortunately, since YouTube can shrink the size of video thumbnails, especially on a mobile phone, the smaller image in my previous thumbnail style may make it difficult to see the food I've made. That's why I moved to the new thumbnail design.

So let me know which video thumbnail style you like best.

Recipes on my Website

I publish complete recipes, including ingredients and steps, for videos on my website (marysnest.com), and you can always go there to print out the full recipe or read additional background about a recipe that complements what I talked about in my corresponding video. My website is also a work in progress, as I publish new content, enhance old content, and try to catch up on comments.

In my recent recipe posts, you'll see more images showing the recipe steps in action to help you understand what may be involved and for you to compare with the stage of the recipe you may be working on.

So, I hope you like seeing more pictures of the recipe steps and the final recipe itself. If you have any other recommendations, please don't hesitate to let me know. I really want my videos and recipe posts to make it easier for you to learn how to make traditional foods and enjoy the time and love you put into the kitchen. 😊
Love and God Bless,
Mary

The Modern Pioneer Cookbook Curriculum

Image of The Modern Pioneer Cookbook Curriculum
The Modern Pioneer Cookbook Curriculum is a comprehensive set of lesson plans to teach traditional foods recipes and kitchen skills to students in grades K-12. You can use this curriculum in conjunction with the recipes and text in my bestselling book, The Modern Pioneer Cookbook. This curriculum resource is over 250 pages, and you can download it for free.

Latest Curriculum News: In addition to helping your children, grandchildren, or students learn how to make traditional foods, the curriculum helps them think about preparing in advance. With spring around the corner, the curriculum discusses a seasonal food cycle and asks students how seasonal eating would change their food planning and decision-making process throughout the year. (For example, what would they do in the spring, summer, or fall to get ready for winter?)
