Today's Scripture

For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not speak later about another day. So then, a Sabbath rest still remains for the people of God, for those who enter God’s rest also rest from their labors as God did from his. Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall through such disobedience as theirs.

— Hebrews 4:8-11 (NRSVUE)

Today's Devotional

How often do you truly rest? Think about the last time you were able to block out the world and take time for yourself to just be. I believe wholeheartedly that we do not rest enough. We do not rest enough because we know there is always more work, more errands, more chores, more problems … the list goes on and on. Rest is a hard thing to find in this world of chaos where we find ourselves now.

In his letter to the Hebrews, the Apostle Paul offers a few words on this idea of rest which I think we could use now more than ever.

Although we may feel worn out from the chaos in the world and our lives right now, God has promised us rest. A rest that awaits us through the power of our action which will lead us into a new day.

So, as day light lasts longer and the weather warms up, take a breath and rest. Rest in the knowledge that what you are doing to make the world a better place will bring you, and everyone you come across, rest through the love of God.

Today's Prayer For Reflection

Gracious and merciful God, we pray that through our actions and your word, we find the rest that you have promised us. As we move forward in our lives, surround us in your love and power so we can find rest in you. In your name we pray, Amen.
