PWI Newsletter for April

The L.I.N.K.S Initiative Month at a Glance

During the month of March, Members had the opportunity to work on their financial literacy skills. For financial literacy week, Members played a life simulation game. They were given a certain amount of money and had the opportunity to make more money or spend it. Members were required to pay rent every five minutes and in order to make that money back they had to complete tasks around the office. Members also had the opportunity to use the money they earned from their task to buy prizes and participate in games. Paying rent and using their money for social activities simulated how budgeting expenses is in the real world! Giving Members the opportunity to make the money back translated to how we must work in order to do the things we enjoy.

In March, we participated in three involvement fairs at Brownsburg High School, Stonybrook Middle School, and Hamilton Southeastern High School.

Congratulations to our Growth Facilitator, Kennedy King, who is now serving as Interim Program Manager!

Season of Change…

An Article from the Board President and Founder

If there is one constant to life, it is change! Spring is almost here! As much as we look forward in our personal lives to the seasons changing, so also, in an organization and its members professional careers do we look forward to a "season of change".

Project WILL is definitely in a season of change. As most of you know both our Executive Director, Kelly Majors, and our Program Manager, Desiree Watts, have recently made a change to accept new external positions. We wish them both well in the next season of their careers.

As a grassroots nonprofit, it can be challenging to remain true to the mission and vision while also being a competitive employer in the marketplace. Project WILL's Board of Directors are committed to continuing to provide quality programming and finding other leaders that are equipped to move us into the next season of this organization. Before onboarding additional talent, we are working to identify improvements that will help us to recruit, vet, select and retain top talent. This includes looking at benefits and compensation, job responsibilities, work schedules and hiring practices just to name a few. We want to continue creating and fostering a workplace environment that is not only diverse, equitable, and inclusive but enjoyable as well.

We want to thank everyone - case managers, behavior consultants, parents, guardians, service providers and of course the Members themselves - for your continued confidence in our ability to assist your adults with cognitive and intellectual disabilities and other behavioral health challenges to grow against all odds.

In the next week, we will be making some additional changes and bringing on a couple of people to assist during the interim. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Dionne Banks, Board President
