Our Newest Temporary Exhibit, My Story, My Tattoo, is Now Open
SATURDAY, JANUARY 20 - SUNDAY, MAY 5
Tattoos are living images that reveal important stories about our residents, our community and the tattoo phenomenon. “My Story, My Tattoo” features 32 photographs and stories of people and their amazing tattoos.
Participants represent every walk of life –everyone from a cancer survivor to teachers and their students, a firefighter and a farmer. The participants range in age from 26 to 89 years and live throughout Wellington County.
All of the individuals were open and honest, and their stories and personalities are represented through this series of thought-provoking and colourful images. Chris Piccinetti, a Guelph photographer and graphic designer for the County of Wellington, photographed these inspiring images.

Laura Secord and her Bonnet
Laura Secord’s Bonnet (L2008.01.001) as it appears at the Niagara Falls History Museum
"Although Laura Secord is one of Canada's favourite heroines, her story is neither simple nor straightforward. Many of the details of Laura Secord's life are a mystery, and even today, there is considerable debate regarding the particulars of her courageous journey.
Born September 13, 1775 in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, Laura Ingersoll was the first child of Colonel Thomas Ingersoll and Elizabeth Dewey. Her family moved to Canada in 1795, and settled in Oxford County, founding the town which was later named Ingersoll in their honour. At the age of 22, Laura married James Secord, a merchant who lived in St. David's. They later moved to Queenston where they lived with their seven children in a modest clapboard house which was purchased for restoration by The Laura Secord Candy Shops in 1969..."
