U of T budget invests in teaching, research and student well-being as sector's challenges mount 
The 2024-2025 balanced budget, approved by Governing Council on April 4, plans for $3.52 billion in spending during the upcoming fiscal year, an increase of 4.9 percent over the previous period. Learn more
Talk and play with video game scholar
Game studies and the Black Research Network welcomes Aaron Trammell, one of the leading scholars in Black game studies. On April 16, he’ll discuss his work, followed by a video game play-along in the Collaborative Digital Research Space (CDRS, MN 3230). 
  • 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: Discussion of repairing play: A Black phenomenology (with catered lunch)
  • 2-3:30 p.m.: Video game play-along With Aaron Trammell. 
Repairs planned for RAWC entrance
Beginning April 29, the RAWC entrance forecourt will be closed until early June for concrete repair.
During Phase 1, both the double door entrances along Outer Circle (across from parking lot P8) into RAWC building will remain open.
Pedestrians are encouraged to use the east crossing between P8 and RAWC building. Bicycle racks in front of the RAWC will be removed during construction; alternative bike racks are located at main entrance to W.G. Davis Building on Inner Circle Rd.
There will be very limited use of the lay-by area during construction. Community members are encouraged to use the Davis Building Inner Circle Rd. entrance drop-off for the duration of the summer term. For questions, contact Edwin D’Cruz, edwin.dcruz@utoronto.ca or 437-332-9409.

Salute Earth Day with Erindale Park litter clean-up 

In celebration of Earth Day, join the Sustainability Ambassadors, UTM Sustainability Office and the Literature Is ALIVE! team for an Erindale Park litter clean-up on April 23 from noon to 1 p.m. Meet at the front entrance of the RAWC at noon. This event will be held rain or shine so dress accordingly. Post clean-up refreshments will be provided. Registration is required. RSVP by Friday April 19.

Readers needed for Convocation

The Office of Convocation is seeking faculty and staff to announce students as they accept their degrees at the upcoming spring ceremony or any future ceremonies.  Reader training focuses on strategies for guessing the names’ origins and finding resources to learn pronunciation, a linguistic overview of phonetic possibilities for individual letters, and coaching in voice projection and body language. Trainees will also be coached in the orchestration of the event itself to learn pacing and on-the-spot problem-solving. Email akaila.cowell@utoronto.ca by April 18 to participate.

Make work a family affair
May 2 is Bring Our Children to Work Day at UTM. Faculty, librarians and staff are invited to bring their Grade 5-8 children for a day of activities. In the morning, there will be scheduled speaker sessions, lab visit/tour and gym time, with job shadowing in the afternoon.

Bridge rehab may slow traffic around UTM

The City of Mississauga will be performing roadwork near UTM that may impact the commute to campus due to lane reductions. Stage two of bridge rehabilitation construction at Burnhamthorpe Road West, east of Mississauga Road over the Credit River runs April 29 to July 31. For information, call 3-1-1, (905-615-4311 outside Mississauga) or visit https://www.mississauga.ca/contact-us/.
