NEW LIFE CHOIR

MIGRANT MINISTRY

Migrant Ministry has now been active in our parish for 10 years!

With Spring now upon us it means the return of migrant workers for the season. This also means that we are prayerfully requesting the donation of any spare bicycles (in reasonable condition), backpacks, men's work clothes and rain gear. (Men's sizes small, medium, large and extra large). Please bring donations to the parish office.  Thank you for your continued support of these workers that are far from home.

CHRISTIAN MEDITATION

“Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10)

You’re invited to join our Christian Meditation Group, Thursdays at 6:30 pm.  Learn about this ancient way of contemplative prayer.  Also known as the “prayer of the heart.”  It was introduced into Catholic Spiritual practice for lay people by Fr. John Main OSB.  These one-hour sessions include 20 minutes of silent meditation.  No difficult poses or complicated techniques.  This is for beginners as well as experienced meditators.  Centering Prayer and TM folks welcomed.  For more information, call/text Darrell Taylor (867) 678-5775.

SPECIAL COLLECTION (April 21) - WORK OF VOCATIONS

This collection supports seminarians studying to become priests for the Archdiocese of Vancouver.

YOUTH MINISTRY HOSTING COFFEE THIS SUNDAY!

St. Mary’s Youth Ministry will be hosting coffee in the gym after all Sunday Masses on April 21st and 28th and selling baked goods.  All proceeds will go directly to funding their annual Lifeteen Retreat.  Thank you in advance for your support!  

PROJECT ADVANCE LAUNCHES THIS WEEKEND

The annual appeal provides critical funding to key ministries and projects in our Archdiocese as well as to our parish. Last year our parish received $59,095.36.  This year our assessment is $65,000 and we hope to raise an additional $65,000 to help with upgrades to St. Mary’s Cemetery; the    acquisition and placement of two carved Indigenous House Posts (in the church foyer ) - representing Healing and Reconciliation; and the purchase of new fire doors for the gym.  We hope that everyone will participate in this year’s appeal. UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC MASS

MARCH FOR LIFE

PIETRA CHAIR CLASS

It’s never too late to join!

Do you have mobility issues or physical limitations, but would still like to build strength & flexibility while also  increasing your mental and physical well-being?  A Chair Class is made for you!

Alison ten Bohmer, a Pro-Certified Pietra Fitness Instructor,  is inviting LADIES ONLY to a Chair Class at St. Mary’s.  Chair classes offer gentle movement from the safety of a chair. 

Pietra Fitness is a whole body fitness program that combines stretching & strengthening exercises with Christian prayer & meditation with the goal of enriching your body, mind, & soul so you can glorify God with your entire being.

A  30 minute LADIES ONLY class is held on Mondays, at 1:30 PM in the Annex.  The fee for 5 classes is $35 or 10 classes for $70.

CHERISH PROJECT COLLECTION CONTINUES

The Chilliwack Knights of Columbus continues to collect diapers, formula and non-perishable baby food for the Cherish Project. This initiative of Chilliwack Pro-Life offers moral and tangible support for young (usually unwed) mothers who made the decision to keep their babies. There is a shopping list near the collection bin in the hallway.

NOVENA TO MARY

On the first Saturday of each month, the Legion of Mary will lead the Rosary after praying the Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help.

(If more than 3 candidates come forward, we’ll hold an election after Sunday Masses on May 25th and 26th). 3RD ANNUAL BEAR BRAWL

SJB’s 3rd Annual Bear Brawl  Obstacle Course Fundraiser,  presented by Topline Electric Motors, is happening Friday, May 3rd on the SJB campus. This unique community-building event transforms the school field into a 12 station obstacle course and brings students, staff, and parents together to show school spirit while competing for all the glory!  This is our only fundraising event of the year, and students are each collecting pledges in hopes of raising $25,000.  In addition to supplementing the school’s         operating budget, the money raised will go towards our school-wide goal of an Outdoor Student Courtyard. CWL BURSARIES

The Chilliwack Catholic Women's League awards

... a one thousand dollar ($1,000.00) Bursary to a Son or Daughter of a League Member who is pursuing their first year of post-secondary studies.  Application deadline is April 30, 2024. Forms are available at the church office.

... two five hundred dollar  ($500.00) Bursaries to two St. Mary's students who will be entering St. John Brebeuf High School.  Check with the school for forms and information.

A NATIONAL BURSARY is awarded to a CWL Member with at least a three (3) year membership.

This Bursary holds financial aid for further Developmental Studies.  Applications submitted by May 15, 2024. (applications available from the parish office)

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic Fraternal Organization dedicated to promoting and conducting educational, charitable, religious and social welfare works, rendering mutual aid and assistance to sick and needy members and their families and providing insurance products and annuities to benefit members, wives and children.  Members of the Knights of Columbus will be available after Mass to answer any questions you may have.

GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY - SUNDAY, APRIL 21ST

PRO-LIFE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

This initiative aims to support pro-life students in the Chilliwack area who are graduating from Grade 12 or are first-year university students.  Applicants will submit an essay that reflects their pro-life stance.  Deadline for applications is May 10th. CATHOLIC STREET MISSIONARIES

The Archdiocese of Vancouver and Catholic Street Missionaries invite young adults 19-30 to join us for the Hope on the Horizon outreach and leadership program happening between August 6-21st in downtown Vancouver. The program is designed to introduce young people to the life of a street missionary, sharing a life of prayer and service with others who go out into the streets bringing the love of Jesus to the homeless. For two and a half weeks, participants will live a communal life, praying, learning, and reaching out to our homeless friends on the streets. There will be street outreach training, faith formation and personal skills development. We will also enjoy recreational activities together. Food and accommodation will be provided.

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers in their Afternoon Pantry (free grocery store) - 12 pm - approx 3:30 pm (or until they run out of food).  They are also looking for help in the Kitchen where they feed soup, a sandwich, dessert and a beverage to anyone who wants to come.  Volunteers needed from 8:30 am - 1:30 pm.  

CYRUS Centre

Providing 24 hr support, shelter & services to Youth in need.
