WORKING WITH STUDENTS WHO NEED INTERVENTION?
Here's a handy questionnaire for students to complete
FREE TO DOWNLOAD this ready-made 4-page form which students complete to identify the areas of support they feel they need.

A really useful way to set the scene before meeting with them to go through a plan of action.

Students can often be found to be honest about what areas of behaviour have led to under-performance. It's a great way to start any intervention process.

Looking for more activities to use for intervention? Subscribers can also use the Getting the Grades Videos on putting in the hours, having a goal, distractions, revision, organisation etc. Each video comes with activities.

Resit maths and English condition of funding rules

'TOLERANCE RULES' CHANGING

Some people might have missed this if their Easter break was earlier so here it is again...

'Tolerance rules' were not much publicised by the ESFA but the rule meant that as long as only a 'small' number of students who were not taking resit maths and English when they should have done to meet the condition of funding, then they were 'tolerated' ie funded. That 'small' tolerance was 5%  of students calculated by value. But this is being phased out.

Kevin Gilmartin, ASCL, who will be presenting at  both the the NetSixthForm summer online and in-person conferences, published a helpful update on this recently.

'Following the new rules on minimum hours for resit maths and English the ESFA has issued new guidance on the condition of funding tolerance rules. The ESFA will issue a phased removal of the tolerance from 5% (which is the present situation) to 0%, starting from academic year 2025 to 2026. According to the government guidance, this is to stop any students falling through the net and have “as many students as possible to achieve a level 2 English and maths qualification”.

What does this mean?
DOUBLE CHECK that all your new cohort of students next academic year who need to re-sit GCSE Maths and/or English are on your MIS in retake lessons by the October census.
