CHRISTIAN MEDITATION

“Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10)

You’re invited to join our Christian Meditation Group, Thursdays at 6:30 pm.  Learn about this ancient way of contemplative prayer.  Also known as the “prayer of the heart.”  It was introduced into Catholic Spiritual practice for lay people by Fr. John Main OSB.  These one-hour sessions include 20 minutes of silent meditation.  No difficult poses or complicated techniques.  This is for beginners as well as experienced meditators.  Centering Prayer and TM folks welcomed.  For more information, call/text Darrell Taylor (867) 678-5775.

St. Mary’s Youth Ministry will be hosting coffee in the gym after all Sunday Masses on April 14th, 21st and 28th and will also be selling baked goods.  All proceeds will go directly to funding their annual Lifeteen Retreat.  Thank you in advance for your support!

PILGRIM VIRGIN STATUE OF FATIMA

The world-famous International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Fatima is recognized as the primary way in which the message of Fatima spread throughout the world and continues today. Sculpted by Jose Thedim, the “Michelangelo of Portugal”, the statue has been traveling internationally since 1947.

On Tuesday, April 16th, the statue will be in the church (from 9 am—4 pm) for personal prayer and devotion.  Refreshments will be available in the annex.  This is a unique chance to deepen our faith and connect with the message of Fatima.

LADIES SPRING SALAD EVENING - APRIL 26TH

Invite your friends and family members (ladies only, 19+) and come enjoy an amazing night out.  You will be seated at beautifully decorated tables, enjoy gourmet salads (+ buns and desserts), listen to an inspirational talk and, at the end of the evening, have the opportunity to purchase your Spring plants (courtesy of Rainbow Greenhouses).  This is an evening you definitely don’t want to miss!  Tickets are $20 each and doors open at 5:30 pm.

CHALICE CHILD SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

April 27/28

Chalice works in impoverished communities to help struggling families overcome the cycle of poverty. Education is the first and most important step in breaking the cycle. Too often, children must skip class or drop out of school to carry water, care for siblings, or earn money for their families.
Sponsorship gives children the support needed to overcome obstacles so they can attend and stay in school, and allows families to provide nutritious food and better care for their children. Children are selected for sponsorship based on need and family circumstances, regardless of race, age, ability, gender, or religion. Education gives every child the opportunity to shine.

There will be an opportunity given to sponsor a child (or children) on the weekend of April 27/28.

MARCH FOR LIFE

PIETRA CHAIR CLASS

It’s not too late to join!

Do you have mobility issues or physical limitations, but would still like to build strength & flexibility while also  increasing your mental and physical well-being?  A Chair Class is made for you!

Alison ten Bohmer, a Pro-Certified Pietra Fitness Instructor,  is inviting LADIES ONLY to a Chair Class at St. Mary’s.  Chair classes offer gentle movement from the safety of a chair. 

Pietra Fitness is a whole body fitness program that combines stretching & strengthening exercises with Christian prayer & meditation with the goal of enriching your body, mind, & soul so you can glorify God with your entire being.

A  30 minute LADIES ONLY class is held on Mondays, at 1:30 PM in the Annex.  The fee for 5 classes is $35 or 10 classes for $70.

CHERISH PROJECT COLLECTION CONTINUES

The Chilliwack Knights of Columbus continues to collect diapers, formula and non-perishable baby food for the Cherish Project. This initiative of Chilliwack Pro-Life offers moral and tangible support for young (usually unwed) mothers who made the decision to keep their babies. There is a shopping list near the collection bin in the hallway.

NOVENA TO MARY

On the first Saturday of each month, the Legion of Mary will lead the Rosary after praying the Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help.

Parish Education Committee Elections :  PEC members are elected or appointed for a two-year term and may serve on the Committee for a maximum of 8 years (not necessarily consecutive).  This year there are three positions open for election and one for appointment.  Current members whose 8 years are not up may choose to stand for re-election, but the nominating process is now open for new members.  To serve on the PEC one must be:

• A practising Catholic, eligible to vote in this parish

• Over the age of 21

  If more than three nominations are received, PEC elections will be held on the weekend of May 25/26, with voting taking place after each Mass. CWL BURSARIES

The Chilliwack Catholic Women's League awards

... a one thousand dollar ($1,000.00) Bursary to a Son or Daughter of a League Member who is pursuing their first year of post-secondary studies.  Application deadline is April 30, 2024. Forms are available at the church office.

... two five hundred dollar  ($500.00) Bursaries to two St. Mary's students who will be entering St. John Brebeuf High School.  Check with the school for forms and information.

A NATIONAL BURSARY is awarded to a CWL Member with at least a three (3) year membership.

This Bursary holds financial aid for further Developmental Studies.  Applications submitted by May 15, 2024. (applications available from the parish office)

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic Fraternal Organization dedicated to promoting and conducting educational, charitable, religious and social welfare works, rendering mutual aid and assistance to sick and needy members and their families and providing insurance products and annuities to benefit members, wives and children.  Members of the Knights of Columbus will be available after Mass to answer any questions you may have.

PRO-LIFE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

This initiative aims to support pro-life students in the Chilliwack area who are graduating from Grade 12 or are first-year university students.  Applicants will submit an essay that reflects their pro-life stance.  Deadline for applications is May 10th. CATHOLIC STREET MISSIONARIES

The Archdiocese of Vancouver and Catholic Street Missionaries invite young adults 19-30 to join us for the Hope on the Horizon outreach and leadership program happening between August 6-21st in downtown Vancouver. The program is designed to introduce young people to the life of a street missionary, sharing a life of prayer and service with others who go out into the streets bringing the love of Jesus to the homeless. For two and a half weeks, participants will live a communal life, praying, learning, and reaching out to our homeless friends on the streets. There will be street outreach training, faith formation and personal skills development. We will also enjoy recreational activities together. Food and accommodation will be provided.

Volunteers needed!

Laundry Driver - we have bedding from the Shelter that needs to be taken to our Supportive Housing to be washed everyday.  The staff will bag the laundry and load it into our RAN Van.  We are looking for someone who could pick it up at 11:30am from the Shelter and drive it to the Interchange.  There, they would help to unload it and pick up the clean laundry to be transported back to the Shelter. Round trip should be approximately 1 hour.  We are looking for volunteers to fill a couple of days of the week to start. We would prefer if you picked a day of the week and kept that date on an ongoing basis. If this is something that interests you, please contact me with the day of the week that works for your schedule and we will chat about more details (such as a drivers abstract, safe driving agreement, etc.).
Upcoming Fundraising Events... Night of Hope Gala - May 3rd (we will be in need of some help the day before for set up as well as the day of).  Again, if this is something that you are interested in, please let me know.
Ride for RAN - September... we are going to be looking for a volunteer coordinator for that event.  If you like working with a team, enjoy being outside, can handle a fast-paced event, then we need you! The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers in their Afternoon Pantry (free grocery store) - 12 pm - approx 3:30 pm (or until they run out of food).  They are also looking for help in the Kitchen where they feed soup, a sandwich, dessert and a beverage to anyone who wants to come.  Volunteers needed from 8:30 am - 1:30 pm.

Providing 24 hr support, shelter & services to Youth in need.
