Even though 2024 was projected to be a slower year for education freedom, multiple states already have expanded school choice opportunities and funding this year. Georgia, Alabama, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Utah have all taken steps to empower parents to direct their children’s education path. Georgia’s Promise Scholarship Act is especially noteworthy for overcoming roadblocks that prevented school choice expansion for several years. And, under Governor Kay Ivey’s leadership, Alabama recently enacted the Creating Hope and Opportunity for Our Students’ Education Act, or CHOOSE Act, creating much-needed access to education savings accounts (ESAs) for Alabama students.
