Hello Hornets!

Welcome back! In this week's Art and Entertainment newsletter, we have new additions to the loved columns of Back to the 80s and Stinger Style. As well as a Sanrio collectors guide and a local coffee house to check out.

Back to the 80s: ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day off’

The 1986 film, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” is a cult classic film based on the dream of every high school student, the perfect and most unforgettable ditch day. Fearless, righteous and bold are all words used to describe the larger-than-life character in the 1986 film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”

This 80s classic captures the effortless and carefree nature of adolescence in a movie about a boy and his two friends ditching high school.

“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” is a film that audiences of all ages can enjoy. Everyone remembers high school and Hughes does an amazing job capturing and pushing that nostalgia of adolescent humor and high school worries into his films.

Stinger Style: Spring Trends students are loving

In this edition of Stinger Style, we talk about what pieces to add to our spring wardrobes. Find some inspiration in this article. (Graphic created in Canva by Maddie Thielke)

As the spring semester is now in full swing and the seasons are changing, new trends are beginning to emerge.

Prints like cheetah, tiger, leopard and rose florals have fizzled out for a while but have been ultra-popular amongst our generation recently. If you are looking for more dimension in an outfit, textured items are a way to add character.

Trends are arising from designer brands to younger labels. This is an idea called the trickle-down theory, where fashion makes its way from fashion shows to more affordable brands like Pretty Little Thing, Fashion Nova and H&M. Trickle-down is the turnaround copy and production of pieces from high-fashion runway shows just weeks after they happen at fashion week.

It’s Sanrio season: How to hunt for your favorite characters

Sanrio hunting is finding items with some Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty, Kuromi, My Melody, Keroppi and more like the ones pictured above. (Photos courtesy of Sanrio, graphic created in Canva by Jada Portillo)

Sanrio is a popular Japanese company featuring memorable icons such as Hello Kitty, Kuromi, My Melody, Keroppi, Cinnamoroll, Chococat, LittleTwinStars and many more. The variety of characters leaves something that will fit everyone’s aesthetic and vibe.

With the rush to get these items, stores have turned into Sanrio deserts leaving buyers to find new strategies and tactics to secure these adorable products.

Hot Topic currently has a line dedicated to the Sanrio world, which has clothes, bags, bracelets, keychains and more. As for Amazon, you can find a Sanrio snack box, a Lego Kuromi, a Sanrio school set and a variety of different things.
