Soul Place PDX: A Safe Space for Young People

In the middle of Portland’s vibrant neighborhoods and bustling streets, a unique haven has emerged: Soul Place PDX. This dynamic community initiative sprang from the Slavic Adventist community in Portland, which over the past two years has welcomed many refugees fleeing the devastation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. During this time, a vision emerged to establish a space where young adults from all walks of life could come together for inspiration, growth, and connection.

Nestled in the cozy confines of the Living Word Adventist Church in Oregon City, Soul Place PDX radiates warmth and creativity. Inside, the atmosphere buzzes with energy, drawing in a diverse mix of individuals from various cultural backgrounds. Keep reading...

Oregon Adventist Stories – Pierre's Story

“I remember there was one night in the dorm when I was working as a dean - we had a student who was like a 19-year-old senior. He’d been involved in gang life back home, but when he was at school he was away from all of that. He definitely had two sides to him - you never knew which kid you were going to get. One night he was not having a good night. He just needed to go on a walk, so we went out to a little gully behind the school. It was really beautiful out there under the stars, and we just sat there and talked about life. That was where he kind of opened up about how he saw God and how he felt God saw him. He was like ‘There’s no way God is going to love somebody like me. You guys say all this stuff and teach us all this stuff, and I know it’s true for you guys. But it’s not true for us.’ Keep reading...
