Homestead Declaration Due April 15

IMPORTANT!

Even if you are not ready to file your VT tax return by the April 15 deadline, PLEASE FILE YOUR Vermont Homestead Declaration (Form HS-122) NO LATER THAN APRIL 15, 2024.

Filing HS-122 on time is what helps reduce your property tax liability. When filed on time, it helps:
- the Town issue you an accurate property tax bill,
- reduces the stress on homeowners and the frustration of receiving inaccurate property tax bills, followed by additional revised tax bills,
- helps the Town Office maintain accurate financial records.

If you (or your tax preparer) misses the April 15, 2024 filing deadline, it affects the accuracy of your Craftsbury homestead property tax bill, and creates havoc and headaches for you, your tax preparer, and the Craftsbury Town Office. The Town of Craftsbury does not waive the penalty homeowners may be assessed for filing after the April 15 deadline.

To see a brief fact sheet that provides information about filing your Homestead Declaration, go to https://tax.vermont.gov/sites/tax/files/documents/FL-1167.pdf

Vermont taxpayer services are available to answer your questions at (802) 828-2865 or 1-866-828-2865 (toll-free in Vermont), or email tax.individualincome@vermont.gov.

The Craftsbury Town Office appreciates your help in filing your VT Homestead Declaration (form HS-122) on time to make property tax season easier to navigate for all of us. Thank you.

Even though Daylight Saving was already “sprung forward” an hour,  there's still a great reason to remember those smoke detectors! Take a quick moment to check the batteries – a working alarm can make all the difference in an emergency.
