Today's Devotional
Spring is my favorite time of year. As the warm weather returns, I’m immersed in God’s love for us and for all living things. Gary and I have been spending time outside lately, admiring God’s handiwork in our yard.
As with past springs, the hostas have returned, seemingly overnight. What started as very small green dots in the soil just days ago are now 10-inch-tall leaves. The buds on our trees, also seemingly overnight, are turning into leaves.
Every spring, we make multiple trips to the store to replenish all the suet cakes and sunflower seeds that the birds are eating as they make their nests and get ready to raise a new family. It’s especially fascinating to watch the cardinal pairs as they eat and enjoy the birdbaths together.
As we sit outside and watch all of this, I’m awestruck.
God created each person, each plant, each bird with a way to live and function. All those cells are so tiny in the beginning but grow into hearts and lungs, eyes and skin, roots and bark, feathers and beaks. The miracle of that is beyond my understanding.
We’re often out early enough to watch the sunrise, and it feels like God has created these beautiful skies just for us, as a reminder that He is near. My heart fills with gratitude as I ponder all of this.
Not only is this season the time for renewal of plants and birds but also for the joy of knowing Jesus’ resurrection. Because of that, we are also renewed.
