Hello, friends!

We've got two main notes this week:

1. Ramadan ends tomorrow, so we'll likely be back at full capacity this Thursday night! It will be great to be able to welcome our Muslim students back.

2. We've got students with needs, and here are some ways you can help:

First, if you're a teacher who has students with needs, or you are a hospitality volunteer who learns about a need while you're talking with a student, there's a number they can text to get help — 866-835-5417. This could be a need for help with furniture, food, housing, documents - a variety of things. The text will be answered by Megan Sims, who is our International Care Team coordinator. You're also welcome to text Megan yourself or email her with any needs you know of at any time. We also have flyers you can hand out to your students as needed.

Second, if you are able to help with needs, we would love for you to get on our International Care Team email list - you'd receive needs by email from Megan and respond when you're able to help. Here's a sample of current needs that are going out through those emails:

Meals for elderly Puerto Rican widower - Héctor recently moved to Hoover and has been visiting Iglesia la Conexión. Without his wife, he has struggled with meals and also could just use some friendly company. If you are willing to bring him a meal and be open to visiting with him for a little while, here is the meal train where you can sign up.

Ride for Hispanic family to Grace Klein Give & Take store in Bessemer - We have a Spanish-speaking family of 5 that are in need of clothes and would like a ride to the GK Give & Take store, where they can shop for free. If you are willing to take one of the parents, or have the ability to take the whole family, please let me know and I will connect you. The store is open Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm.

Housing for male Moroccan College Student - A 23-year-old Jeff State student from Morocco is urgently seeking new housing. Ideally, we would like to connect him with a Christian family who not only offers him a place to stay but is also open to welcoming and including him like a true member of the family.

Many items needed for Syrian refugee families - We have learned about recently resettled Syrian refugee families that are in need of many items like clothing, kitchen supplies, appliances, and transportation. I am working on getting more detailed information such as clothing sizes and specifics on what appliances are needed but if have any of the following, please let me know:
  • Microwave
  • Washer & Dryer
  • Any kitchen items like cookware, dishes, etc.
  • Clothing - More info coming on sizes!

Thank you for all you do to help love our students well each week!!!
