Code of Conduct Committee


2024 Q1 Transparency Report

The Code of Conduct Committee recently published a transparency report for the first quarter of 2024. Between January 1 and April 1, there were no formal Code of Conduct incident reports published. Learn more about the Code of Conduct Committee by visiting our website.


Board of Directors


2024 Q1 Board of Directors meeting

The Quarter 1 meeting of The Carpentries Board of Directors took place on 26 February during the Board of Directors retreat. The meeting focus included strategic planning, fostering team cohesion, and sparking constructive dialogues to strengthen our bonds and advance The Carpentries mission. Membership Program


Task force to explore The Carpentries Membership model

Member organisations have expressed evolving needs and desires, seeking resources to enhance community sustainability, inclusion of curriculum development training, and support for workshop attendees post-training. Therefore, The Carpentries will soon convene a task force to explore our Membership model, and we want you to be involved. If you're interested in learning more, email membership@carpentries.org.


Swapping Instructor Training seats for Collaborative Lesson Development Training

Member organisations are now able to allocate Instructor Training seats to Collaborative Lesson Development Training when renewing their memberships. Trainees can join Collaborative Lesson Development Training in teams of 2-5 participants each. Learn more about the training on our website, and contact curriculum@carpentries.org to ask questions and register your interest.

Presented by members of the Library Carpentry Curriculum Advisory Committee, the onboarding will provide an overview of the Library Carpentry curriculum, and provide guidance to Instructors about how to teach these lessons effectively. The onboarding is intended for any Instructor who wants to start teaching Library Carpentry lessons. We also welcome experienced Instructors who want to share their perspective and insights to benefit others. This session will be recorded.

Community Opportunity Postings

  • The Collaborations Workshop 2024 (CW24) will bring together researchers, developers, innovators, managers, funders, publishers, policy makers, leaders and educators to explore best practices and the future of research software. The Software Sustainability Institute invites all members of the research software community to join the discussions. Registration is open via Eventbrite. The deadline to register to participate in-person is Friday, 5 April 2024. The deadline to register to participate remotely is Thursday, 11 April 2024.


  • The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in Kenya seeks a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Qualitative Impact Evaluation to support the qualitative impact evaluation activities at the center in various research thematic areas. Applications close on 10 April 2024.  


  • The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Notre Dame seeks a broadly trained and innovative bioinformatician at the Assistant Professor of the Practice level to contribute to service in the Genomics and Bioinformatics Core Facility (GBCF), and to teach courses and workshops in computation and genomics. This non-tenure track position is available starting fall semester 2024, and is renewable and expected to be a long-term, continuing position with opportunities for promotion. Review of applications will begin on 15 April 2024.


  • The Smithsonian Institution is seeking a Data Scientist to be responsible for developing, planning, and executing basic and applied research in bioinformatics as applied to biodiversity genomics and conservation biology, and to provide bioinformatics and computational expertise and training to the Center for Conservation Genomics (CCG)/National Zoological Conservation Biology Institution (NZCBI) scientists. Applications close on 26 April 2024.


  • The School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University invites applications for two full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-eligible Teaching Assistant Professor in Computational Biology positions with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2024. Applications close on 26 April 2024.


  • The Rotman Research Institute in Toronto, an international centre for the study of human brain function, has an opening for an Open Science Manager. Presumably open until filled.

  • The University of Oklahoma (OU) invites applications for a joint appointment as a Research Scientist with a focus on defense/security related supply chain and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools. This position is instrumental in realizing their vision of establishing a Center of Excellence in Defense Supply Chain at OU-Norman campus. Presumably open until filled.
