How long have you been teaching online?

This is my fourth year of online teaching.

I tested online teaching waters during the COVID-19 restrictions in 2020. Those initial forays were synchronous, via Zoom technology, supported by Wake's Canvas platform. I aspired even then to explore asynchronous pedagogies. I taught my first asynchronous course in 2021 and have designed and taught five different 3-credit asynchronous courses thus far…

Intentional Design: Crafting Effective Online Courses

Intention emerges as a distinct motivator for individuals, prompting contemplation on purpose, actions, and meaningful experiences. When intentionality becomes central to a pursuit, an individual finds clarity in their motivation to validate their actions. In the context of a course design, the application of intentionality signifies an instructor’s commitment to nurturing students’ learning journey fostering a supportive environment characterized by engagement and inclusivity. This approach revolves around understanding the underlying purpose of the course ensuring that every instructional decision resonates with the overarching goal of facilitating meaningful learning experiences.

Beginning fall 2024, online programs will be offered by all schools on campus. And, we crossed the 1,000th student mark in 2023! The growth of online programs means greater access to a Wake Forest education and more opportunity for us to promote excellence in online learning. Coming Soon: TO@Wake 2024

A new version of Teaching Online at Wake is coming soon!  TO@Wake is our asynchronous Canvas course designed to introduce instructors to best practices in online teaching and course design.  The course is currently being updated to include new helpful resources and redesigned using our template tool, CidiLabs Design Plus. Look for details and a self-enroll link in the May newsletter.  Schools or departments interested in a facilitated, cohort-based course should complete the “Request Consultation” link below.
