INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENT, BANELE MTHETHWA WINS FIRST PRIZE AT THE DTIC FURNITURE DESIGN COMPETITION
Third-year Interior Design student at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Banele Mthethwa clinched first prize in the Furniture Design Competition hosted by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) in partnership with the South African Furniture Initiative (SAFI), Proudly South African, the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and their industry partners. Mthethwa was announced as the winner in the student category at the Proudly South African Buy Local Summit held recently at the Sandton Convention Centre.
The DTIC hosts a furniture design competition annually in which students and professionals are invited to participate.
DUT SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT PROJECT IS SEEKING FUNDS TO CONTINUE MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT ON HIGH SCHOOL LEARNERS
In its ongoing commitment to enriching the educational experiences of high school students, the Durban University of Technology (DUT) is actively conducting a fundraising campaign through its School Engagement Project. With a lofty goal of raising R500,000, the project, initiated in 2018, operates under the Advancement and Alumni Relations unit at DUT.
The School Engagement Project, which was launched in 2018, was designed to enhance school education, offering practical, hands-on learning experiences and opportunities for DUT students, whilst nurturing collaborative partnerships with various internal and external stakeholders.
PROMOTING CULTURAL DIVERSITY THROUGH INTERCULTURAL EXCHANGE AND TEAM BUILDING: DUT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS’ INITIATIVE FOR SOCIAL COHESION
The International Education and Partnerships (IEP) unit at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), in conjunction with the BAT Centre, which is Durban’s premier Community Arts Centre, together with the Durban Holocaust and Genocide Centre, recently organised a dynamic workshop aimed at enhancing team dynamics and promoting social cohesion through intercultural exchange.
This informative and action-packed initiative involved students from various countries, including Zimbabwe, Germany, Kenya, South Africa, Angola, DRC, Mozambique, Lesotho, and Nigeria, among others.

SRC SPORTS AND RECREATION OFFICER IN DURBAN AIMS TO FOSTER AN INCLUSIVE AND DIVERSE ENVIRONMENT IN SPORTS
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Students Representative Council (SRC) Sports and Recreation Officer in Durban, Fezeka Majombozi, wants to make sure that every student feels welcome and has the opportunity to participate in sports regardless of their background or skill level.
Majombozi is currently enrolled in the Faculty of Management Sciences, pursuing a Diploma in Business Law. Her journey at DUT started when she commenced her studies in 2021 following her high school exit in 2020.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?
A: “I work for the Institute of Systems Science at DUT, as an administrator. I help with the daily operations of projects run by the department and offer administrative support, in order to make sure that everything runs smoothly and efficiently.”
