Ramadan 2024 will provide an opportunity to break your fast with family and friends at the Masjid. It is a valued tradition at Evergreen Islamic Center to offer this service to the community. Iftar at the Masjid is an opportunity to meet the new members of the community, meet old friends and make new ones! With Ramadan during the spring break will also allow kids to enjoy their time with friends without having to worry about school. It is truly a spiritual and a festive atmosphere for the entire community to benefit and enjoy. During the spring break, the Youth Committee plans to organize various youth-oriented programs, including youth iftar, with the aim of encouraging young people to actively participate in community activities and interact with their peers.
What is Zakat ul Fitr (fitra)?
Zakat ul Fitr (also known as fitra) is a charitable donation of food that must be given before Eid prayer, before the end of the month of Ramadan, for the love of Allah. Zakat ul-Fitr is compulsory upon every self-supporting adult Muslim who has food in excess of their needs, on behalf of themselves and their dependants.
Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
“The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordained Zakat ul Fitr [Fitra] to purify the fasting person from indecent words or actions, and to provide food for the needy. It is accepted as Zakat for the person who gives it before the Eid prayer; but it is a mere Sadaqah for the one who gives it after the prayer.” [Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah]
We are deeply grateful for the continuous generosity and support of our community. Please help us reach our goal for Operations and Construction. JazakAllahu khayran!

The EIC community can extend help to Afghan refugees in a variety of ways. The following are a few ways through which the members of the EIC community can support the Afghan refugees.
1. Financial Donations
Please donate to the Afghan Refugees settlement. The money raised from the Evergreen community will be used to provide temporary housing, organize food/grocery distribution, as well as sponsoring other basic household necessities.
2. In-Kind Donations
Please donate non-perishable food items(can be dropped at the Masjid lobby area ), new or used furniture, used cars, and/or household appliances that are in good working conditions. Volunteers will collaborate with authorized agencies to deliver these to the Afghan refugee families.
3. Become Family Support
Be a support system to the Afghan families by providing them the necessary support to help them adjust to their new environment. This would involve driving them to doctor’s appointments, SSN offices, DMV appointments, and other transportation needs. Furthermore, volunteers can help with providing any necessary financial literacy lessons and enable them to adjust to their new surroundings and environment.
4. Coaching/Tutoring classes for young Afghan school kids
High school and/or college kids can volunteer by helping to provide tutoring to younger Afghan refugees to help them adjust to their new school environment. The kids need tutoring in English, Math, and other subjects taught at elementary, middle, and high school. EIC Volunteers will collaborate with authorized agencies to conduct the
classes. The tutors will receive volunteering hours as well as a unique experience to discuss future college applications.
To become family support or to conduct coaching/tutors, volunteers need to be registered with authorized agencies. EIC Afghan refugee taskforce volunteer will coordinate the registration process with an authorized agency.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying that Allah, the Most Blessed and High, said:
"O son of Adam, spend. I will spend on you. The right hand of Allah is full and overflowing and in nothing would diminish it, by overspending day and night."
