NFFTY Short Films

Wednesday, May 15, 6:30pm
Balcony Theatre
, 211 Taylor Street, Suite 401A
Port Townsend, WA

Fresh from NFFTY 2024 (National Film Festival for Talented Youth), we present a curated collection of excellent short films exploring mental health. You’ll be impressed and moved by the work of these young filmmakers, 24 years old and younger.

The evening will include a post-film discussion and talk back. Films include:

  • Room: A teenager struggles with depression and social anxiety, expressing it through locking himself in his imaginary room where his life plays out. The film is shown from the boy’s perspective in his “room” showing how real-life events affect him in it.
  • Frog In My Throat (animated): A young girl with an anxiety disorder struggles to manage the ‘frogs’ that make her life difficult until she reaches out for help.
  • Our Highest Priority: Bailey, a struggling undergrad, tries to navigate her school's underfunded mental health support services in hopes of getting help. Watch the trailer...

OWL360 will host a discussion following the films talking about the local resources available to support mental health for young people and the importance of listening to young people's stories as we work together as a community to do so.

OWL360 (www.owl360.org) provides young people of Jefferson County opportunities for sustainable independence through: Affordable Housing, Community Connections, Individual Supportive Services, Programs, and Events.

The Nest (www.owl360.org/programs#TheNest) is a Community Coffee House where 100% of the proceeds go towards youth and young adult programming. In addition to coffee, The Nest Outreach Advocates will be available for young people to explore opportunities via resources, community connections, outreach, events, and simply interacting, building connections and social capital.

NFFTY (www.nffty.org) is the world’s largest, most influential film festival for emerging filmmakers 24 years old and younger. Celebrating and elevating work by women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and other young persons from traditionally marginalized communities who are building a more equitable and inclusive film industry.

This PTFF Focus event is sponsored by Windermere Real Estate and Kristin Manwaring Insurance.
