Carlos Subero, who was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Kansas City Royals in 1990, spent five seasons in the minors with the Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Texas Rangers before being “called up” as the Milwaukee Brewers (MLB) first base coach from 2015 – 2019 has come to an agreement to serve as Special Advisor to the Legacy League, set for its inaugural season in 2025, where he will be reunited with former Milwaukee Brewers MiLB Manager – Buck Rogers in their shared advisory roles.
Subero became a minor league manager in 2001, guiding the Rangers' rookie league team, the Gulf Coast Rangers, for two seasons, their Class A affiliate, the Clinton LumberKings, from 2003-2005, and the High A Bakersfield Blaze in 2007.
In 2008, he managed the Birmingham Barons ("AA") to the second-best record in the Southern League and a spot in the playoffs. In 2009, he was the manager of the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino. From 2010 to 2012, he managed the AA Chattanooga Lookouts. For the 2013 season, he managed the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in the California League.
Subero was hired to manage the Milwaukee Brewers' AA Huntsville Stars in 2014. Shortly after being hired to manage the club, Carlos was informed that a new ballpark was on the horizon in Biloxi, Mississippi. After negotiations in Biloxi hit numerous snags that could have delayed the first game until the 2016 season, Tim Bennett (then co-owner) made a statement and commitment when he exclaimed, “We will play ball in 2015.” Yates Construction, Bennett, and a team of local contractors led by Tony Rogers had an ace up their sleeves and would find a way to beat the odds, accomplish the unthinkable and deliver MGM Park to Biloxi when the opening pitch was thrown before a sold-out crowd on June 6th. This herculean effort by Yates and the team would save the city of Biloxi hundreds of thousands of dollars in penalties that would have been enforced with a $10,000.00 per (missed) game fee that would have been charged to the city of Biloxi.
Subero who backed Bennett’s efforts to get MGM Park completed, took his team on a 58-day road trip – highlighted by ESPN http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/13337860/biloxi-shuckers-endless-54-game-road-trip-takes-south
That epic road trip included 54 games, eight cities, and 2,800 miles in an odyssey across the Deep South.
“Coach Subero and the boys didn’t let the drama end out there on the road; they delivered Biloxi and the Shuckers’ first home win when we beat our rival - Mobile Bay Bears in an epic home opener where Nick Shaw singled home Brent Suter from second base in the bottom of the fourteenth inning to secure the win, it doesn’t get much better than that.”
– Buck Rogers, Biloxi Shuckers Manager
To add to the excitement of the opening night was a fan catching a line drive that went viral with over one million views: https://www.wlox.com/story/29300320/biloxi-shuckers-fan-recalls-crazy-catch-and-viral-video/
"I was on the Inside Edition, ESPN, Sports Center, MLB Network, CBS, Fox," said Graves, "I've seen posts in London and Amsterdam. Brazil. It's crazy how much something spreads from just catching a ball, on a first-person point of view."

“Carlos is a proven commodity in baseball at all levels and his history of doing things the right way will bring structure and stability to our player development team as we work to not only bring diversity to the clubhouses of our 10 Teams but also to benefit so many of the International players that will be welcomed to Mississippi to play with our collegiate athletes in the Legacy League. As a graduate of Jackson State, being drafted by and pitching in the Boston Red Sox organization, I personally am looking forward to working with Carlos and the two of us learning from each other to make the Legacy League and this game better.”
– Clint Johnson, Legacy League Deputy Commissioner – Player Development
After the one-two punch of Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil spill, the folks in Biloxi didn’t need much to think the worst, but Subero and his team of nomads lifted the Biloxi community upon their shoulders and would deliver them the best, in a season that saw the Shuckers best attended season to date and a Championship appearance that was painfully lost in the final game 5 of that forever memorable season.
Subero guided the Biloxi Shuckers, a first-year franchise, to the best record in the league with 79 wins and would go on to be honored as the Southern League Manager of the Year.
In 2015, Subero again proved himself successful when he managed the Surprise Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League to the best record in the circuit, losing the championship game to the Scottsdale Scorpions.
“I’m happy and excited to be on board with the Legacy League, especially from ground zero to build something that has tremendous potential in providing these young men a place to play. It’s great to be reunited with Tim, knowing his work ethic and passion behind everything he does, we know the dream will be fulfilled of all of us helping the next generation of the world’s citizens, both on the field, in the front office and just around baseball.”
– Carlos Subero
On December 7, 2015, following his many career successes, the Brewers hired Subero as their first base and infield coach, where he coached for the MLB club (“Milwaukee Brewers”) until the 2019 season.
