| Skilled spearfisher @zaclonghurst_ had the adrenaline rush of his life when a black marlin charged towards him off Exmouth and provided a chance for a shot. Luckily he had mates nearby to attach floats and keep the sharks occupied while he pulled it in! This fish didn't go to waste and fed a lot of mouths. Fast-growing species like marlin are a highly sustainable species to target and this fish is probably only 2-3 years old. |

| Small fish but a big memory! The Pentecost River in the East Kimberley produced loads of small barramundi for these youngsters under the guidance of @barrawhisperer and they still provide an awesome fight for kids wanting to cut their teeth in learning the basics of fishing. |
|
| Dampier and Crab creeks have been holding good numbers of threadfin salmon and small barramundi, along with a few mud crabs. It has been quieter down at the Fingers, although a few smaller barramundi and threadfin did turn up for fishers who put in the hard work. Around Roebuck Bay’s moorings tripletail catches have improved significantly, with some good sizes rolling through over the past week. Boats making the long journey out to the 50-60m depths have done well on red emperor and Rankin cod but sharks have been a nuisance, so make sure you move spots frequently even if you're catching fish and turn your sonar off if you're anchoring up. Today and Saturday should be relatively flat on the water but Sunday is looking a bit choppy with some stronger easterly winds expected. |

Bream, javelinfish, queenfish and trevally have been caught at Town Beach Jetty, while bigger trevally and queenfish have been landed at the Port Jetty, along with the odd bluebone in decent sizes which have provided five-star quality feeds. Entrance Point has been worth a crack for trevally and queenfish as well, with metal lures working nicely. In the Fitzroy River good barramundi have been caught at Langi Crossing and Telegraph Pool with sizes frequently crossing the 70cm mark, while threadfin salmon catches have been good at Eighty Mile Beach.

There’s been plenty of fun in Exmouth Gulf, which has held clearer water, little wind and saw a range of species firing. Coral trout, blue-lined emperor and spangled emperor have been in good numbers on the Shoals with a couple of big coral trout landed in 10m depths. Spearfishers have been getting their share of coral trout as well. King Reef also fished well for these species, while higher in the water column tuna and cobia have been active throughout the Gulf. Tuna have been taking slices, while big soft plastics have worked well on the cobia. Squid have been caught in good numbers and sizes in the Gulf and also out from Tantabiddi. Deep down in the Gulf the flats have rewarded fly-fishers with bonefish and golden trevally. The Muirons have been quieter than usual but queenfish, coral trout and Rankin cod have been among the reported catches. On the west side tuna to 40kg have been smashing a range of lures and even knife jigs sent down in 150m depths have been pulling up great catches. Goldband snapper, ruby snapper and big cod have also been active in these depths. Billfishing has been good in 150-300m depths out west and it was mainly sailfish and black marlin reported, but there have been plenty of dolphinfish and wahoo among the bycatch. Spanish mackerel catches have become more consistent closer in on the west side, while other species including blue-lined emperor, spangled emperor and bluebone have been caught as well. There's some beautiful weather headed into Exmouth this week for the boaties so make the most of it.

Mangrove jack have been the dominant catch for shore-based anglers this week. There’s been plenty of them in the town marina where they have been swimming with bream, cod and trevally. At Bundegi they have been feeding on hardyhead schools along with trevally and queenfish and it’s been the same story down at Learmonth, where casting surface lures has been productive for whiting. Mangrove jack also regularly haunt Wapet Creek, which this week has held big flathead. Squid catches have also been rewarding at Learmonth Jetty, the town marina’s outer rock wall and once again from the rocks at the industrial estate. At Mildura Wreck and the Lighthouse, spangled emperor, bluebone and queenfish have been the main catches as usual, while Tantabiddi has produced good numbers of spangled emperor on stickbaits and soft plastics.

Kalbarri Offshore Angling Club members enjoyed excellent conditions for their competition last weekend, with some stellar mixed bags achieved. Cobia to 10kg, tuna, Samsonfish, Spanish mackerel and wahoo were caught in depths starting from 20m, while boats that covered plenty of ground did very well on dhufish, with two fish weighing 12kg and 13kg weighed in. An 8kg red emperor was also caught and although no coral trout were landed in the competition, a 75cm model was taken earlier this week. Plenty of big pink snapper and baldchin groper also featured in catches this week with most structure usually producing at least one of the two species. Crayfish numbers have dipped with the full moon, but now that the moon is waning they are expected to pick up again. Red Bluff has been one of the better spots if you're keen to drop some pots. The best boating windows this week are looking like the early mornings across this weekend but aim to return before 9:00am when the wind spikes.

Fishing club members also did well in the Murchison River where they and holidaymakers got among some cod measuring up to 70cm along with some chunky bream. Reasonable whiting came from the Sand Spit in the river and a few chopper tailor were caught there as well, with one javelinfish also featuring. Those chasing mud crabs in the system have found the going harder this week. Big greenback tailor have been caught on poppers at the river mouth and Back Beach, while tailor catches and sizes at Red Bluff and Wittecarra have improved as the swells picked up around midweek. Dart have been mixed in with the tailor there as well. Spanish mackerel have been caught down at Wagoe but sharks have been a problem, so if you manage to hook one via ballooning and see a shark hot on its tail, try free spooling your reel to let the mackie outrun it on speed and fish with appropriately weighted gear.

| Before the wind picked up earlier this week crews putting in a bit of work were finding good numbers of demersals quite easily. Snapper were caught out wide, while in closer it was mostly baldies. Only a few dhufish reports came from the shallower depths and pink snapper catches were also down on sizes and numbers in these areas. Early into the Geraldton and Districts Fishing Club’s Halco Abrolhos Islands Game Fishing Tournament, billfish were raised and tagged in ones and twos, while the light line crews have been getting stuck into good Spanish mackerel and tuna action. Dinghy fishers have been getting good numbers of squid when they have found patches of clear water and locations such as Point Moore and just off Pages Beach are worth targeting if conditions allow it. The sheltered waters around town have started to produce blue swimmer crabs in better numbers with a mixture of mulies and chicken necks as bait working nicely. This morning was quite pleasant for the boaties but the southerly winds and swell will take a bit of a bump over the weekend before Monday onwards flattens out. |

A little bit quieter on the land-based front this week. There were reasonable numbers of whiting around the town’s beaches and rock walls. Most have been small, but a few 30cm models have been caught. Swimming with them have been heaps of small herring and skippy, so it's worth throwing out handfuls of burley to improve your odds. Tailor fishing at the regular spots on both sides of town seems to have shut down but around Northampton smaller tailor around 30-35cm and fork-tailed catfish have been caught in good numbers.

| Recfishwest CEO Dr Andrew Rowland ducked up to Lancelin for an Anzac Day fish and managed to find this nice pinkie offshore during a paddle near one of the reef breaks. Drone fishers have been doing well on the pinkies as well although they've gone rather quiet for those casting off the beach. |

| Fishers heading west for demersal species have been mostly picking up a mix of dhufish and baldchin groper with reports of catches improving through the 20-30m depths. A swell earlier in the week had snapper biting well on the inside of White Bank, with a burley trail and unweighted pilchard or whiting drifting down into the swirl doing the trick. Squid have been well worth chasing along the inshore weed banks with some great catches and they were most active under the full moon light. The bay has been a great spot to test your skills on light tackle with some thumping skippy taking trolled or cast lures and there were still plenty of herring too. Saturday morning should be relatively calm but the moderate southerly winds and higher swell on Sunday will make it rough out on the water. Some raging easterly winds will roll through on Monday and Tuesday. |

With cooling waters, we have seen a change of seasons. Tailor have slowed dramatically over the past few weeks but a few can be caught from the reef breaks closer to shore. It's worth driving along the beaches until you find a bit of whitewash or a nice gutter next to these reef breaks and launching a CiD Spratt into these areas. A lot of tarwhine and herring have become active along the beaches and there was an uptick in the size of sand whiting caught this week, with most gutters holding plenty of fish. The main game has been increasing numbers of the elusive mulloway that never seem to come easily. Anglers putting in some serious time and effort along with fresh bait like mullet have been rewarded. If targeting mulloway, try fishing the prime bite times such as high tide, sunrise and sunset. Saturday at this stage should hold a better land-based fishing forecast than Sunday.

| Dhufish up to 10kg have been caught at Waterwitch, while nannygai to 65cm have been landed at Figure of Eight Island. Some very nice breaksea cod and smaller nannygai have come from Black Island. Solid queen snapper and Samsonfish have been caught at Leg of Lamb. Esperance Bay has been fishing well for squid in 6-7m depths for boats both anchoring up and those drifting and working multiple jigs aggressively, while big King George whiting and sand whiting have been caught at Wylie Bay. Waters just off Observatory Island have held plenty of big snook. Saturday is looking quite pleasant on the forecast at this stage with calmer northerly winds and swell expected, so that's the best time to duck out over the coming days. |

Gummy sharks up to 15kg have been in big numbers at Roses Beach, along with skippy to 4kg and big schools of salmon. Israelite Bay has been a hotspot for mulloway up to 10kg, while good mulloway and gummy sharks have come from Poison Creek. Skippy up to 5kg have been landed at Dunns Beach. There has been an abundance of salmon at 10-Mile Lagoon and Fourth Beach. Blue Haven Beach has offered excellent fishing for sand whiting, while Bandy Creek Boat Harbour has held good-sized flathead and skippy. King George whiting up to 45cm have been caught from the town foreshore, while the Town Jetty produced good numbers of squid in the afternoons with pink jigs working best this week. Garfish have been caught at night from Taylor Street Jetty, while at Woody Lake bream to 40cm have been caught on lures.

| There weren't too many weather windows that opened up to duck out this week and those that did provide an opportunity to do so were brief. Crews that were able to get out to the coral ground early in the week managed to land some good breaksea cod, along with quite a few nannygai and a few queen snapper and blue groper. Closer in crews targeting waters around the islands have encountered tuna and salmon, with trolling deeper diving lures that can reach 3-5m depths working nicely. Saturday should hold the best boating conditions this week with a swell of around 1.3m combined with some light to moderate westerly to north-westerly winds. |

This stunner of a yellowtail kingfish landed by the @thetidaltale crew off Albany this week seemed to be paying tribute to West Coast after their derby win last weekend, this one seems particularly blue and gold!
Down at Cheynes Beach a few tuna have been landed from the shore for those who could launch out Halco Twisty's, while salmon have shown up at Main Beach and Back Beach which has terrified the hordes of herring! Salmon hotspots this week have included Sand Patch, Fosters and Reef Beach near Bremer Bay but most beaches have had schools go by. Decent salmon have also turned up at Emu Point. Emu Point has also fished well for squid as has Frenchman Bay, Whalers Cove and the town marina. Herring have been around town in huge numbers and getting a feed has been very easy, with burley bringing in huge amounts within only a matter of minutes. In the King and Kalgan rivers bream have been much harder to target and are believed to be holed up in the deeper sections of both rivers. A few King George whiting have been caught around Frenchman Bay. In Denmark’s Wilson Inlet pink snapper around 55cm have been caught.

| Pretty much everywhere throughout the South-West region is brimming with these hard-fighting beauties right now, just do as @pjfishingwa does and keep the sand between your toes when targeting them, you'll catch just as many in the safe confines of a beach as you do off the rocks, which has a much higher risk attached to it. |

| Demersal species have continued to fish well with the 30m depth line producing good numbers of dhufish and some excellent breaksea cod. Pink snapper have also been caught in these depths and closer in as well. King George whiting have been active offshore in 40m depths, where crews have also encountered salmon and a few Samsonfish and tuna in these areas as well. Chunky skippy have been in good numbers at the artificial reef. On either side of town squid have been caught in 5-10m depths. Trolling for herring has been productive off Back Beach where the occasional school of salmon has crashed the party, while Geographe Bay produced plenty of herring, sand whiting, King George whiting and squid across the patchy areas. Kayakers have been doing well trolling for salmon off Rocky Point and when conditions have allowed they’ve caught their fair share of dhufish, breaksea cod, pink snapper and Samsonfish around the Capes. From today right through until midday on Sunday looks quite nice for the boaties on the forecast. |

The good news is that the big salmon schools that have been hanging around the Capes have pushed further up the coast and solid fish hit the sand along all the major beaches between Dalyellup and Preston Beach. The salmon have been hard to tempt though, often showing little interest in lures or dead baits, but live baits have usually come up trumps. Many fishers have been getting their two or three fish a session with one angler at Binningup getting six this week. These same beaches have been teeming with herring, but only the odd tailor has been caught. Beaches north of Bunbury have produced a few pink snapper. Salmon have been far less shy from Dunsborough south, with Smiths Beach, Yallingup, Eagle Bay, Castle Rock, Bunker Bay, Hamelin Bay, Contos and Injidup all producing. Also around Dunsborough, tuna have been caught from the rocky headlands, while all the beaches in Geographe Bay have been thick with herring. Around Bunbury there were good numbers of herring, garfish and chopper tailor caught at the Bunbury Cut, while Busselton Jetty offered plenty of squid, herring, garfish and skippy. Bream have been caught in the Collie River and dab netters have been getting prawns in the estuary.

| Despite the low waters levels some nice redfin perch have been pulled out of little more than deep puddles in parts of the Collie River and also at Wellington and Harvey Dam. The water levels are so low at the moment that islands have even starting popping up in the middle of the major dams this week, so it pays to move around on a kayak and if you can manage it, try and use a fish finder to track down the deeper pockets and structure. Dropping a soft plastic or small jig down into these areas usually gathers a feed of redfin perch. Bigger redfin perch have come from the Southern Forests region but it has been very quiet on the trout front, with the catches expected to improve significantly once the rains come pouring down. |

| Squid can sometimes take a few metres of line, but big cuttlefish like this will make a reel sizzle once they take your squid jig! This youngster pulled in this whopper of a cuttlefish in the shallows off Mandurah this week. Most fishers report cuttlefish flesh tastes slightly sweeter/better than that of their squid relatives, but we're happy to hear your opinion! |

Boats: Although conditions have been difficult this week, good fish have still been taken when weather windows have opened up. Dhufish have been plentiful in 40m depths off Dawesville and plenty of big breaksea cod have been keeping them company. Some big pink snapper have been caught by crews who headed out wide to 100m+ depths. Tuna have been active in 40m depths right along the Peel coast, while King George whiting chasers have been doing well in 30m depths. On the Five-Fathom bank the current has been very weak and pink snapper have shown little interest. Plenty of chunky skippy have filled the void and at times pike have been about in big numbers along with the odd salmon. Inside the Five, sand whiting have been caught when conditions allowed it. Squid have been in good numbers on the weed banks just offshore from Avalon, Melros and Falcon. Chopper tailor and big herring have been caught by dinghy anglers trolling the estuary, while drop netters have been getting blue swimmer crabs close to the ocean entrances and also in the ocean, just inside the reefs at Avalon and Falcon when it’s calm enough to drop nets. All of Saturday and up until midday on Sunday is looking glorious for a punch out in the boats.
Land-based: Herring and a few tailor have been caught at the Dawesville Cut and a salmon was landed there this week. With so little current about, garfish have also started to show up in decent numbers in the Cut and have been supplementing the bags of herring fishers. Those in the know have found juvenile salmon in the 40-60cm range in some of the estuary’s marinas. At the Mandurah bridges herring and chopper tailor have been the main catches. On the beaches either side of town a few small chopper tailor have been caught, along with good numbers of herring. The Serpentine and Murray rivers have been fishing well for bream.

Boats: Dhufish catches have been excellent in the 40m depths and also out deeper in 90m. Five-Fathom Bank and Garden Island have been among the better spots and good numbers of baldchin groper and breaksea cod have been mixed in with them. Big skippy have also been hanging around the Five-Fathom Bank. Pink snapper have tended to be in closer in with some good pinkies landed in Warnbro and Cockburn sounds, inside of Garden Island and behind Penguin Island. Small tuna have also been hanging around the 40m depths and Coventry Reef has become a hotspot for them this week. A diver also speared a decent Spanish mackerel there this week and it has also held salmon and tuna. Salmon seem to have been beating tailor to baits and lures at Mewstones and Stragglers, with the odd small yellowtail kingfish showing up there as well. Both Sounds, Garden Island and Mangles Bay have fished well for squid along with sand and King George whiting, with squid captures best in 5-7m depths. Your best boating window is lining up nicely on Saturday and until midday on Sunday at this stage.
Land-based: A nice tuna was caught off Palm Beach Jetty this week and Rockingham Jetty has also offered herring, squid and chopper tailor in the evenings. Bonito have been landed at Woodman Point and the Ammo Jetty and these locations have held lots of herring, chopper tailor and scaly mackerel, along with a few squid. Beach fishing for tailor has improved this week with Secret Harbour and Port Kennedy among the better spots. Long Point fished well too and offered herring and whiting as well, while at the Penguin Island spit herring, whiting and the odd flathead have been caught.

| While most of the fishing attention has been on the demersals lately, the FADs are still firing for dolphinfish and tuna for the crews venturing out that way and they have seen less traffic than usual, meaning more action for those who put in the effort. The @sendnbend_sportfishing crew battled with this 8kg+ dolly this week at the @compleatanglernedlands FAD, which just shows you can have a great day out on the water if you mix it up and target species other than demersals! |

| Demersal species have continued to fire with good numbers of dhufish and pink snapper caught out from Two Rocks, Mindarie and Ocean Reef. All around Rottnest Island and on Five-Fathom Bank was also quite rewarding for the boaties. The 40m depths have been a good starting point where nice baldchin groper and breaksea cod have been among the bycatch, but plenty of big pink snapper have been caught in 100-120m depths. At Three-Mile Reef crews have done well on pink snapper, King George whiting, Samsonfish and small tuna. Tuna have been in good numbers in most places, with again the 40m depths producing good catches on the troll. The West End of Rottnest held Samsonfish, tuna and yellowtail kingfish, although kingfish catches have tapered off. Action at the FADs has slowed, but dolphinfish and tuna have been about and it could just be a case that crews are focusing on demersals now. The inshore waters of Rottnest have produced some nice King George whiting and there have been reports of the odd stray salmon. Windmills has fished well for King George and sand whiting, while more good numbers of sand whiting have been caught in 15m depths off City Beach and closer in off Mindarie. At Ocean Reef crews chasing King George whiting inshore have boosted their bags with some solid flathead. Squid have also been firing with good numbers taken by kayak fishers in 4m depths out from South Fremantle and Coogee. Chopper tailor sizes in the Swan River have fallen away, but some good fish have been taken on the troll, while deeper sections of the Swan such as Mosman Bay, Claremont and Blackwall Reach continued to produce blue swimmer crabs despite a bit of effort being required. This evening and very early on Saturday morning is looking best for the boats but it will be quite windy and choppy outside those periods for the remainder of next week. |

The North Metro beaches have tended to produce the better pinkie catches over the past week and drone fishers have frequently been rewarded. The @one_drop_cartel crew got Rob onto this 78cm snapper shortly after the bait was dropped a couple hundred metres from shore, before a 79cm snapper was reeled in not long after!
One or two solid pink snapper were landed at North Mole this week and a few pinkies have been taken from the northern beaches as well. Bonito have also been caught from North Mole and throwing small divers, metal slices and micro jigs from there could produce a salmon as well as bonito. Herring have been at the Moles in big numbers and a few tailor have been caught in the evenings. Good catches of tailor have also come from the South Beach rock walls along with the beaches at Swanbourne and Cottesloe. Tailor have also been swimming with garfish at Grant Street in Cottesloe according to swimmers and divers. Beaches such as Floreat and City Beach have offered mainly whiting, herring and the odd flathead. Northern beaches such as Quinns and Alkimos produced tailor in the evenings and there have been reports of school mulloway showing up as well. North Mole and the Fremantle rock walls have also fished well for squid. Fremantle Harbour held heaps of herring, along with scaly mackerel. Big tarwhine have been hooked around the Fremantle bridges but many have been lost around pylons and other structure. In the Swan River chopper tailor have been active from the river mouth as far up as the Narrows, with lots of barely-sized fish but a few better models around 40cm have still been about. Respectable school-sized mulloway have come from the Narrows and there were whispers of bigger fish landed there. The drop-offs around Mosman and East Fremantle have been holding a few flathead, while the better locations for big bream have been places with structure such as the Causeway, Canning Bridge, Mt Henry Bridge in the Canning River and Garratt Road Bridge. Soapie mulloway have also been about the upper reaches along with a few decent flathead. Tomorrow morning will be quite calm but some strong easterly winds are expected early next week for those wanting a bit of casting assistance off the Metro beaches.
