Stutsman County Courthouse State Historic Site celebrates 'Elevating Community Through History' May 11

JAMESTOWN, N.D. — Join us Saturday, May 11, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., for "Elevating Community Through History," an event celebrating the Stutsman County Courthouse State Historic Site restoration and Historic Avenue dedication in Jamestown. Experience North Dakota’s oldest surviving courthouse, featuring a unique hands-on exhibit about civics and local government. 

At 11 a.m., North Dakota State Historical Board President Matt Dunlevy will provide opening remarks before a Historic Avenue dedication by Jamestown Mayor Dwaine Heinrich. Tour the courthouse and take in the exhibits. Enjoy lawn games, live music, a presentation on U.S. President Chester A. Arthur, and a wet-plate collodion photography demonstration. The newly installed elevator allows visitors to easily access the courtroom, county offices, lower-level jail, and voting area. Witness historic preservation in action as restoration has been ongoing since the 1990s. 

The Stutsman County Courthouse is a state historic site managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. It is open Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment.
