April 2024

Office of the President

Hello Burrell Community!
We have so much to celebrate this month. First, our Accreditation with Exceptional Outcome designation. While there have been several messages on the subject, I would like to again express my sincere thanks and gratitude to each one of you for your hard work and dedication to Burrell and our mission. This was a tremendous achievement and certainly one to celebrate, which we will be doing soon.
Second, I would like to recognize Sid Alvarez, our Director of Marketing & Communications and Christopher Espinosa, our Videographer. Because of their amazing talent and ability to tell stories both verbally and visually, our College received two 1st Place Awards for Excellence in Communications at the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) Educating Leaders Conference in Kansas City. They continue to put Burrell on the map and minds of many!

And last but not least, I would like to continue to celebrate the opening of our Melbourne campus by introduce you to two new Board of Trustee members in Florida. The first is Dr. John Nicklow, President of Florida Institute of Technology and the second is Mr. Brett Esrock, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of HealthFirst. Their expertise and presence in the Florida higher education and healthcare community will foster opportunities for collaboration and provide endless opportunities for our students. We are truly honored to have them join our board on July 1, 2024.

Office of the Dean

You are likely aware that we received Accreditation with Exceptional Outcome from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. What you may not realize (as I did not) is how many existing COMs that have been in existence much longer than ours have yet to achieve this distinction. It serves as another testament to the outstanding accomplishment of our faculty, staff, and students who all contributed to this recognition. I am grateful for the chance to help lead such a great group of people!

It is hard to believe that we are just a few days away from graduating our fifth cohort of osteopathic physicians. I hope you find time to celebrate their achievements with them next week, whether at the pre-commencement awards reception on Thursday, Commencement on Friday, or both. Congratulations to the Burrell College Class of 2024!

Office of Enrollment Services

Please join the Office of Enrollment Services in congratulating our Director of Admissions, Natalie Davis, as she has been named Vice Chair of AACOM's Council of Osteopathic Medical Admissions Officers (COMAO).  Congratulations Natalie!  We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2024 Graduates who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and academic excellence during their tenure at the College. Congratulations to the Class of 2024.

Class of 2024, diplomas will be available for pick up immediately following the commencement ceremony on May 3, 2024. You will also be sent an email to download the electronic diploma and create an account to have lifetime access to this credential. CeDiplomas are an exact duplicate of your paper credential and contain a unique identifier that can be verified in real time through the Office of the Registrar website, which makes them easy and safe to share with your residency programs and state licensing boards. For more information and a quick “How to” video, please visit the CeCredential Overview page.

Reminder to all OMS IV students:  Please complete your graduate checkout via the CAMS student portal. Deadline is Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

The Burrell College 2024-2025 scholarship application recently concluded, with over half a million dollars in institutional funding available to eligible students. The Scholarship Committee is diligently evaluating applications.  Scholarship recipients will receive notifications in early June.

The Department of Education has been in communication with schools regarding FAFSA (Federal Application for Student Aid) delays. While these delays have impacted the processing of FAFSAs at Burrell College, our students remain informed about their eligibility. They can continue to complete essential tasks such as the federal FAFSA application, Master Promissory Notes, Entrance Counseling, and Exit Counseling. The Graduate Plus application will be available starting May 1, 2024. We encourage eligible students to explore this opportunity for further financial assistance with the Office of Financial Aid, financialaid@burrell.edu.
