LEGION OF MARY - 2000 Hail Marys

On May 16th, at 9 am in the Annex, come and join us for a day of prayer to Our Blessed Mother for our personal petitions and the intentions of Pope Francis.  Reciting 2000 Hail Marys may sound like a lot, and will take a bit of time to complete, but it will be a day of blessing and fellowship.  Come and meet the members of the Legion of Mary and let’s pray together for peace in this world and for our families.

NEW LIFE CHOIR

The New Life Choir is welcoming new members to join our family in song and in friendship.  Ordinary voices with practice and support from one another make a beautiful sound.  Please consider sharing your gift of music with us and the congregation.  Practice is on Wednesday evenings from 7 till 8 sharp in the Church.  Please prayerfully consider this your personal invitation to join us.  For any further information, please call Myrt at 694 795-5304 or come to a practice any Wednesday evening.  We enter through the north door of the Church.  Hope to see you soon.

MIGRANT MINISTRY

Migrant Ministry has now been active in our parish for 10 years!

With Spring now upon us it means the return of migrant workers for the season. This also means that we are prayerfully requesting the donation of any spare bicycles (in reasonable condition), backpacks, men's work clothes and rain gear. (Men's sizes small, medium, large and extra large). Please bring donations to the parish office.  Thank you for your continued support of these workers that are far from home.

The next Migrant Ministry Mass will be celebrated on May 26th at 6:30 pm

May is the month of Mary.  St. Mary’s School celebrated with a school Mass, followed by the Crowning of Mary.  Parishioners and students brought up flowers to honour our Blessed Mother.

LADIES SPRING SALAD EVENING - APRIL 26TH

Last week, we held our Ladies Spring Salad Evening, a fundraiser for St. Mary’s School and Youth Ministry.  It was an absolutely amazing evening!  The tables were beautifully decorated, as were the gym walls (thank you Lillian!), the salads were delicious (thank you Lori’s Catering), the video speaker was very inspiring (Sr. Josephine Garrett), and the plant sale (thank you Rainbow Greenhouses) was a great success.  We are already looking forward to next year!  

YOUNG AT HEART CARD GROUP

The Young at Heart Card Group is looking for anyone interested in enjoying an afternoon of fun, fellowship and cards (whist and cribbage) to join them!  The group meets every Wednesday from 1 pm - 3 pm in the Annex.

PROJECT ADVANCE 2024 - BUILDING OUR PARISH COMMUNITY

The annual appeal provides critical funding to key ministries and projects in our Archdiocese as well as to our parish. Last year our parish received $59,095.36.  This year our assessment is $65,000 and we hope to raise an additional $65,000 to help with upgrades to St. Mary’s Cemetery; the    acquisition and placement of two carved Indigenous House Posts (in the church foyer ) - representing Healing and Reconciliation; and the purchase of new fire doors for the gym.  We hope that everyone will participate in this year’s appeal. UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC MASS

PRO-LIFE MARCH FOR LIFE - May 9th in Victoria, BC

PIETRA CHAIR CLASS

It’s never too late to join!

Do you have mobility issues or physical limitations, but would still like to build strength & flexibility while also  increasing your mental and physical well-being?  A Chair Class is made for you!

Alison ten Bohmer, a Pro-Certified Pietra Fitness Instructor,  is inviting LADIES ONLY to a Chair Class at St. Mary’s.  Chair classes offer gentle movement from the safety of a chair. 

Pietra Fitness is a whole body fitness program that combines stretching & strengthening exercises with Christian prayer & meditation with the goal of enriching your body, mind, & soul so you can glorify God with your entire being.

A  30 minute LADIES ONLY class is held on Mondays, at 1:30 PM in the Annex.  The fee for 5 classes is $35 or 10 classes for $70.

CHERISH PROJECT COLLECTION CONTINUES

The Chilliwack Knights of Columbus continues to collect diapers, formula and non-perishable baby food for the Cherish Project. This initiative of Chilliwack Pro-Life offers moral and tangible support for young (usually unwed) mothers who made the decision to keep their babies. There is a shopping list near the collection bin in the hallway.

NOVENA TO MARY

On the first Saturday of each month, the Legion of Mary will lead the Rosary after praying the Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help.

The Legion of Mary invites you to join them in praying 2000 Hail Marys on May 16th, beginning at 9 am, in the annex.  Come and meet the members of the Legion of Mary and pray for peace in our world, and for our famillies.

(If more than 3 candidates come forward, we’ll hold an election after Sunday Masses on May 25th and 26th). CWL BURSARIES

The Chilliwack Catholic Women's League awards

... two five hundred dollar  ($500.00) Bursaries to two St. Mary's students who will be entering St. John Brebeuf High School.  Check with the school for forms and information.

A NATIONAL BURSARY is awarded to a CWL Member with at least a three (3) year membership.

This Bursary holds financial aid for further Developmental Studies.  Applications submitted by May 15, 2024. (applications available from the parish office)

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic Fraternal Organization dedicated to promoting and conducting educational, charitable, religious and social welfare works, rendering mutual aid and assistance to sick and needy members and their families and providing insurance products and annuities to benefit members, wives and children.  Contact information for Knights of Columbus is on Parish Information page.

There will be no pancake breakfast this month.  Next pancake breakfast will be held Sunday, June 2nd, after all Masses.

PRO-LIFE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

The Cherish Project - The Chilliwack Pro-Life Office is looking for a volunteer that would be able to pick up bread from Cobs at Cottonwood Mall, on a Sunday at 6 pm, two times per month.  The volunteer would go to Cobs, pack up the bread in bins (that Pro-Life would provide), and then the next morning (Monday) they would deliver the bread to the Pro-Life office.  If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer, please contact A.J. PRO-LIFE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

This initiative aims to support pro-life students in the Chilliwack area who are graduating from Grade 12 or are first-year university students.  Applicants will submit an essay that reflects their pro-life stance.  Deadline for applications is May 10th. CATHOLIC STREET MISSIONARIES

The Archdiocese of Vancouver and Catholic Street Missionaries invite young adults 19-30 to join us for the Hope on the Horizon outreach and leadership program happening between August 6-21st in downtown Vancouver. The program is designed to introduce young people to the life of a street missionary, sharing a life of prayer and service with others who go out into the streets bringing the love of Jesus to the homeless. For two and a half weeks, participants will live a communal life, praying, learning, and reaching out to our homeless friends on the streets. There will be street outreach training, faith formation and personal skills development. We will also enjoy recreational activities together. Food and accommodation will be provided.
