Please plan to stay for Sunday Social

immediately following the service to enjoy fellowship and refreshments.

John and Cheryl Hodges have just returned from a boating adventure discovering the beautiful southwest coast of Florida. There were many highlights, including fresh stone crab claws at Kelly’s in Naples, a relaxing beach day on Captiva Island, and renting a golf cart in Boca Grande!  Whenever we were docked on a Sunday, with Father Harry’s help, we sought out an Episcopal church in the area to visit.

The first church we visited was Iona-Hope Episcopal Church in Ft. Myers on April 14.  We were warmly greeted by the parishioners and clergy.  At Father Harry’s suggestion, we were delighted to meet Wanda Adler whose husband, Rev. Dr. John Adler, was the founding Vicar of Iona-Hope Episcopal.  Sadly, John passed away on September 10, 2023.  During coffee hour, Wanda graciously filled us in on fantastic stories of their life, family and adventures.

The next Sunday, we found ourselves docked in Punta Gorda. It was Good Shepherd Sunday, so it seemed especially fitting to attend The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd nearby. This congregation was also very warm and hospitable, and even included St. Matthew’s in their Prayers of the People!  The original Tiffany stained glass window at the front of the church depicts the Good Shepherd and is of immeasurable value. We enjoyed meeting and visiting with Father Roy Tuff as well as other clergy and parishioners.
