Reforming Parenting programmes
|
How can we reform ‘parenting programmes’ so they are culturally appropriate, compassionate, and factor in the inequities that families face?
For more than seven years, ParentSkills2Go has been providing support to Black and racially minoritised families through a variety of peer-led parenting programmes.
What started out as an online workshop has now evolved to include coffee monrings, in-person events, focus groups, and an emphasis on culture and values.
Our inspiring partner Margaret Taribo, Director of ParentSkills2Go, writes about their new approach to supporting parents.

Time for Labour to turn the tide on children's health
|
|
Early this year, Labour set out its vision on child health, proposing to create the “healthiest generation of children ever.”
An urgent focus on children's health is welcome. And a new parliamentary term brings an opportunity to fundamentally reset our relationship with the food that surrounds our children.
Originally published in the New Statesman, our Head of Children's Health and Food, Nikita Sinclair, outlines the transformational policy changes needed if Labour wants to deliver on its ambitions.

Partnering with Black community leaders to improve air quality
|
|
One of the priorities of our Health effects of air pollution programme is engaging and amplifying the voices of those most impacted by poor air quality.
Black people in Lambeth and Southwark are disproportionately affected by poor health outcomes. Air pollution is a major cause of this health inequity. Yet the voices and experiences of Black people are often overlooked or ignored in conversations about clean air.
That’s why we are supporting Rooted by Design to create the conditions for change needed to address the health effects of air pollution, and amplify Black people’s voices on clean air and health equity issues.

Campaigning to protect children from air pollution
|
|
In 2004, Ella Roberta Adoo Kissi Debrah was born in London, happy and healthy. Aged nine, Ella had a fatal asthma attack and became the first person in the world to have air pollution listed as a cause of death.
Following her daughter’s death, Rosamund co-founded the Ella Roberta Family Foundation (ERFF) to campaign for clean air. ERFF’s campaigning was pivotal to the passing of the Clean Air (Human Rights) Bill, named after Ella, in the House of Lords in 2022. If passed to law, it will create a human right to breathe clean air.
In collaboration with the Clean Air Fund, we are co-funding ERFF to continue their work locally, nationally, and internationally.
