Ontario Raising Minimum Wage to Support WorkersThe Ontario government is increasing the minimum wage from $16.55 per hour to $17.20, effective October 1, 2024. This 3.9 per cent annualized wage increase is based on the Ontario Consumer Price Index (CPI) and brings Ontario’s minimum wage to the second highest in Canada. Learn more |

Ontario Working for Workers in MiltonThe Ontario government is investing over $7.3 million through the Skills Development Fund (SDF) toward three free training projects in Milton to help more than 700 workers and jobseekers prepare for in-demand careers in the skilled trades. Ontario Training Jobseekers for In-Demand Careers as ElectriciansThe Ontario government is working to fill the labour shortage by successfully training new Electrical Construction workers for in-demand careers in Niagara Region, together with union partners. Enabled by an investment of $672,700 through Ontario’s Skills Development Fund (SDF), the government has partnered with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 303 to deliver the Job Readiness Program for local apprentices and jobseekers. Updated training standards for working at heightsNewly updated standards for mandatory working at heights training are now online. These updated standards address one of the leading causes of workplace deaths in industries like construction and will help improve the quality of training and the safety knowledge of participants when working with ladders, skylights, damaged equipment and more. New certification management system for Chief Prevention Officer-approved safety trainingThe ministry recently launched a new system to manage certification records for mandatory working at heights and joint health and safety committee certification training. Users can find and register for courses, update profile information, verify training records, find information about mandatory training and use the eligibility checker to access their training records and see their eligibility for courses. A new, updated version of the system includes enhancements to the home page, a new FAQ section, improved mobile experience and more. Use the new system |

New interactive reports available on Collective Bargaining OntarioThe ministry has released four new, interactive reports on Collective Bargaining Ontario. These interactive reports contain data extracted from publicly available collective agreements and interest arbitration awards. This new data can be used during collective bargaining to help inform evidence-based decision-making at the bargaining table. The new interactive reports are based on the following themes:
