Julie Benson Receives Chancellor's Cornerstone Award

Julie Benson, Associate Director of Alaska INBRE (a.k.a. our fearless leader) was awarded the UAF Chancellor's Award at a ceremony on April 10, 2024. 

"The Chancellor's Cornerstone Award recognizes University of Alaska Fairbanks staff for sustained outstanding contributions toward accomplishing and enhancing the UAF mission and strategic plan."

We agree wholeheartedly!

NIH OITE Mental Health and Well-being of Biomedical Researchers series  The NIH Office of Intramural Training & Education (OITE) presents this series with a goal to have an open and honest dialogue focused on mental health and well-being to decrease stigma and explore new tools to support ourselves and others in the biomedical research community. The series is open to all trainees, fellows, and staff at NIH and elsewhere who wish to join this important conversation. 6th Annual Alaska Indigenous Research Program (AKIRP) - May 6-24, 2024 @ Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage. The Alaska Indigenous Research Program (AKIRP) is a collaboration between the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) and Alaska Pacific University (APU) to increase capacity for conducting culturally responsive and respectful health research that addresses the unique settings and health needs of Alaska Native and American Indian People.

2024 Summer Immersion Program - May 30-June 1, 2024 in Washington, DC - The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is hosting a 3-day education and training program for students, post-docs, and early career researchers interested in human-based in vitro, in silico, and in chemico methods, OMICS, AI and machine learning technologies to advance biomedical research, improve human health and environmental safety and risk assessment, and reduce and replace animal models. Biennial '24 Workshop - July 23-24 - NIH, Bethesda - Centered around the NIH SuRE R16 grant mechanism, this conference is open to faculty, students, and research administrative staff who meet specific R16 program requirements. It is a unique opportunity to meet NIH grants management specialists, program officials, and scientific review officers. share science with like-minded colleagues, and attend sessions designed to help build research programs. Registration is open through June 3.  More information     Registration

International Congress for Circumpolar Health (ICCH18) -  Due to the high risk of drought and wildfire in the Northwest Territories this spring, this meeting has been postponed until later in 2024. Details about rescheduled dates and locations will be available soon. 

15th International Conference on Brain Energy Metabolism (ICBEM) - Sept 17-21, 2024 in Ljubljana, Slovenia:  "Brain Bioenergetics in Aging - Neurovascular and Neurometabolic Coupling and Fuels"This conference brings together leading researchers, clinicians, young scientists, and students interested in brain energy metabolism. The conference is open to all interested scientists with registration on a first-come basis until reaching a limit of 118 conferees. Registration covers most meals and meeting expenses. Promoting Indigenous Research Leadership (PIRL) Workshop - Nov 18-20, 2024, Tempe, AZ.  PIRL is a three-day workshop designed to promote the research careers of Indigenous and other early-career faculty working with Indigenous communities. Apply by June 3. Learn more

 
UAF URSA 2024 Supply and Service Awards: UAF faculty members, adjunct instructors, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students and staff from all disciplines and UAF-campuses are eligible to apply for up to $5,000 in supply and service funds to support undergraduate research, creative, and scholarly learning opportunities. *** All awarded funds must be spent by June 1, 2024. Applications will be accepted April 15-28. Award decisions will be announced on May 10 via email. Register here, or visit the URSA website for more information.
