Spring 2024
Denmark FFA Annual Awards
I was honored to speak at the Denmark FFA Annual Awards Banquet last weekend!  These students are truly a dedicated and accomplished group strongly supported by the community.
Welcome Foxview Intermediate!
The opportunity to visit with students throughout the 1st District is one of my favorite things about serving as your State Senator.  This week, a group from Foxview Intermediate School in De Pere came to the State Capitol, and as usual, I was very impressed by the questions I receive from students.  Maybe one of them will be inspired to pursue a career in public service...
Hmong Day at the State Capitol
It was very rewarding for me to take part in the Hmong Day at the State Capitol Celebration this week.  The purpose of the celebration, hosted by The Hmong Institute, is to engage Hmong youth in state government and and commemorate the passage of 2023 Wisconsin Act 266.  This historic legislation directs school boards to provide instruction on Hmong Americans and Asian Americans.  I believe that it is important for our Hmong youth to meet their legislators and gain inspiration about the civic process.
National Police Week
This is National Police Week, a time to remember and honor law enforcement officers for their service and sacrifices – especially those who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

This year, the names of five Wisconsin officers… four killed in 2023, one in 1945… are now honored, remembered, and engraved on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The names of the fallen remind us that this is no time to defund the police.  It has been my privilege to work with the brave men and women who keep our families and communities safe, and to be named the Wisconsin police officers’ Legislator of the Year three times.
"Never Again" is Now
Last week, Jewish students presented UW-Madison officials with documented reports of bullying, intimidation, discrimination and anti-Semitism directed at them from the illegal pro-Hamas encampment on campus.  Especially outrageous are reports of University faculty and staff joining in and directly targeting and threatening Jewish students in their positions of power.

Jewish students told UW leadership they no longer felt safe on campus and asked administrators to take specific steps to ensure their security.  The students are still waiting.

‘Never Again’ is now.   As a proud alumnus of UW-Madison, I am ashamed at the university’s apparent acceptance of this hateful, threatening climate on campus for Jewish students.  That’s why I, along with other lawmakers, contacted UW Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin this week and urged her in the strongest possible terms to take a stand against the threats and acts of blatant discrimination committed against Jewish students and take immediate action to protect them.
Senate Overrides Governor's Harmful Vetoes
This week I joined my Senate GOP colleagues in voting to override several of Governor Evers' vetoes that are hurting Wisconsin families and communities.  For example, the Governor is blocking $125 million in PFAS funding - an especially urgent need in Northeast Wisconsin - so his DNR can bankrupt innocent homeowners to clean up pollution that they did not cause.  This senseless policy gives homeowners every incentive not to test their drinking water at a time when we need testing more than ever to protect our families and find out the full scope of the problem in Wisconsin.  Just know that when you hear the Governor talk about going after "polluters," he's going after you and your family.
