*IMPORTANT* - No Dogs on School Grounds

With the arrival of warmer weather, the desire to walk dogs to school among families may increase. Nonetheless, it's important to be aware that the City of Grande Prairie Bylaw C-1226 prohibits dogs on school grounds.

  • 3.14 The Owner of a dog shall ensure the dog does not enter or remain in or on any area where dogs are prohibited by posted signs, or within five (5) meters of a playground, athletic field or school ground.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this bylaw.

A Taste of Swanavon!
As we continue to embrace the diverse cultures within our school community, we are excited to announce a special event that celebrates diversity in a truly delicious way – a "Taste of Swanavon"!  At this event, we invite you and your family to join us for a potluck style meal from different cultures, prepared with love and care by members of our community.

This celebration is not just about the food, it is an opportunity for us to come together, learn from one another, and celebrate the beauty of our differences.  Whether you bring a dish from your own cultural background or simply bring your favourite dish, your presence will make this event truly special.

The event will take place on May 16th, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. in the school gymnasium. If you plan to attend, please send an email by May 10th to: arlene.foley@gppsd.ab.ca and include the following information:
  1. Name of your family
  2. How many people will be attending
  3. Food item that you will be bringing to share
We look forward to seeing you there!

KinderPAL is an early learning Program of Choice for kindergarten-age students in GPPSD schools. The Play and Learn experience is programming in a classroom setting where students experience peer-based play as they continue developing and growing their knowledge.

Students will experience full school day learning with kindergarten programming for half their time, and the other half is KinderPAL. It follows the school’s full-day bell schedule and calendar. A certified teacher provides kindergarten curriculum instruction, and an Early Learning Instructor provides KinderPAL programming.

See more information about KinderPAL by visiting the Grande Prairie Public School Division site.

Pick-up and Drop-off

Ensuring the safety of our students is our top priority.  To maintain a secure environment for everyone, we kindly request that you continue to observe and obey all traffic laws when dropping off and picking up your children. Some things to pay special attention to are:

  • Drop-off and Pick-up areas: Please refrain from stopping in "No Stopping" zones, such as behind staff parking on the south side of the school. This can create congestion and compromise the safety of our students.
  • Crosswalks and Pedestrian Crossings: Be vigilant at crosswalks and pedestrian crossings. Yield the right of way to pedestrians, and ensure that the crosswalks are clear before proceeding.
  • Speed Limits: Please use extreme caution around the school, especially during peak times.

 Every Day Counts!

Success in school starts in Kindergarten and attendance is one of those factors that can help a child succeed. Research shows that students at any grade have difficulty catching up if they miss too much school. It also shows that absenteeism is a very strong predictor of dropout rates; more than suspensions, test scores or retention.

Parents and schools can work together to ensure student success. By making attending school a priority, students have a better chance of succeeding and feeling good about their progress in school.

If your child is ill or has an appointment, please remember to call reception at 780.532.8885 to excuse your child or email at Swanavon.School@gppsd.ab.ca
