Galle district is home to some of the most sought-after tourist destinations in Sri Lanka. The tourism sector in the district predominantly relies on unique socio-cultural experiences, diverse marine ecosystems, and forestry landscapes, serving as a crucial source of income for local communities, particularly those in remote areas with limited economic opportunities.


To enhance climate and disaster risk management and finance in the district's tourism sector, SLYCAN Trust organized a workshop that brought together key local-level stakeholders from the public and private sector as well as academia.

Updates on CDRFI in Sri Lanka

The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to provide free insurance for red onion cultivation in Sri Lanka. With this, the Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board (AAIB) is providing a basic agricultural insurance coverage for a total of seven types of crops; paddy, chillies, big onions, red onions, potatoes, maize, and soya. This insurance covers crop damage caused by wild elephants, crop damage due to drought and heavy rain.
