Letter To The Alliance

Dear ARA community,

It has been over three years that I have had the pleasure and honour of being the Head of Secretariat of the Adaptation Research Alliance, including the lead up to the Alliance’s launch at COP26. During this time the ARA has grown from 33 participating organisations to 250 Members and evolved from delivering online consultations to over 55 micro-grants, diverse learning journeys with Members and co-creating action-oriented adaptation research calls and programmes with funders and partners.

While we have achieved much, there is clearly much more to be done. As the ARA transitions into a new phase of Southern leadership and strengthened Member-led delivery to scale adaptation research and action in the Global South, I will be stepping down in my role as Head of Secretariat. As part of this transition, we will be commencing the process for recruitment of a new Head of Secretariat. This is a critical role for the ARA and an excellent opportunity for a dynamic and experienced leader. We are open to filling this position through regular recruitment or on a secondment basis. If you are interested in exploring a secondment opportunity, we are inviting expressions of interest from potential secondees and seconding organisations.

See the ToR here and apply now!

In the meanwhile, the Secretariat will continue to work with Members toward the ARA’s three functions of advocacy, research planning and cooperation, resource mobilisation and delivery.

Jesse DeMaria-Kinney
ARA Head of Secretariat

A Note From The Co-chairs

Dear ARA Members, friends and colleagues,

Over the past three years we have accomplished much together. In that process we have validated the need and value of this Alliance, whilst also advancing our theory of change and the three functions of advocacy, research planning and cooperation, resource mobilisation and delivery. Now we move from the inception phase - where we established proof-of-concept and the value of the Alliance - to a phase of continued growth and strengthened Southern leadership. We hope to write more to you soon with ideas and plans for this growth – which will emphasise the member-led nature of the Alliance.

As part of this transition, we will be commencing the process for recruitment of a new Head of Secretariat from the Global South. The incoming Head of Secretariat will build on the excellent work done by Jesse and the whole Secretariat team (both current and former) – thanks to whom we are where we are today.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the important work of the ARA and collaborate with dedicated professionals committed to driving positive change in the field of adaptation research.
