42nd Annual Roscommon Canoe Classic

**PLEASE PARK AT HIAWATHA CANOE LIVERY! DO NOT PARK IN CHURCH PARKING LOT!**

Saturday May 4th
C2 Race starts at 11am.
Day of registration opens at 9:00.
Register under the gazebo in Wallace Park.

Heats will be determined following pre-registration and day of registration (day of registration participants will automatically be put in the last heat). We will be doing our normal running start with one paddler starting across the road and over the hill while the other paddler waits with boat on the river edge.

Paddlers will paddle down to Deerheart Valley Rd and perform a clockwise buoy turn and paddle back up river to Wallace Park.

Amateur Class (Expert 2) will paddle down to Steckert Bridge, perform a clockwise buoy turn and paddle back up river to Wallace Park.

Following the race there will be award ceremony starting at 12 PM. All are invited to attend.


Sunday May 5th
C1 Race Starts at 11am.
Day of registration opens at 9:00.
Register under the gazebo in Wallace Park.

Paddler order will be determined by pre-registration (day of registration participants will automatically be put last). Paddlers will be sent off every 5 seconds, paddle down to Steckert Bridge and perform a clock wise buoy turn and continue paddling back up river to Wallace Park.

Following the C1 race there will be a award ceremony.

From South:
I-75 North, Exit 239, Right onto M-18/E Michigan Hwy
3 miles-Park is located on the left – just past the Catholic Church
From North:
I-75 South, Exit 244,Left onto W. Federal Hwy/CR 200
3.8 miles, Turn left at light onto Lake Street.2 miles- Park is located on left – just past the Catholic Church

Registration opens at 8
Race starts at 10
C2 race course:
Paddlers will start at Herbert W Steih Memorial Park heading upstream and continue past the two I-75 bridges turn the Wheeler Rd bridge counterclockwise and head downstream to Castaways. Paddlers will then turn the bridge next to Castaways counterclockwise and head back upstream to the finish at the park. This will be approximately 10 miles.


Sunday May 19th
C1 Race
Registration opens at 8
Race starts at 10
C1 race course
Paddlers will start at Herbert W Steih Memorial Park heading upstream will turn the Wheeler Rd bridge counterclockwise head downstream towards the Euclid Ave Bridge (Bridge 1 mile before Castaways) turn that counterclockwise and come back up to the finish at the park. This course is just shy of 8 miles.


 



Huron River Canoe Challenge

16th Annual Huron River Canoe Challenge
June 1st, 2024 @ Gallup Park, Ann Arbor

The Huron River Challenge is a sanctioned paddling event of the Michigan Canoe Racing Association designed to bring an exciting day of canoe racing to the Huron River in Ann Arbor.

Event Schedule:
Registration begins at 9:00 am at the Benard L. Maas Shelter.
C-1 Professional Race (10:00am)
+ Juniors (10:00am)
The kickoff to the Huron River Canoe Challenge will feature 20 – 30 solo canoes in a 6 mile race around Geddes Pond. This event will begin at 10:00 am with a mass start in Gallup Park and feature 1 large lap between US23 and Furstenburg Nature Area.

C-2 Professional Race (12:30 pm)
The highlight event of the Huron River Canoe Challenge will feature up to 30 professional canoe racing teams competing in a “marathon style” event. The course is 14 miles long and includes a portage at the Geddes Dam. This event will begin with a mass start in Gallup Park.
Registration is at the Benard L. Maas Shelter.

I-75 South to US23 South. When near Ann Arbor follow signs for M-14 E/US23 South. Take exit #39 for Geddes Rd. Turn right on Geddes Rd. Continue west approximately 1.5 miles. The entrance to Gallup Park is on the left just past the Huron Parkway intersection. Continue through Gallup Park to the last parking lot. Registration is at the Benard L. Maas Shelter.

From South:
(also if coming from East or West along I-94)

***If the lot nearest the Picnic Shelter is full, please park in one of the other Gallup Park parking lots or at the Gallup Park boat launch.

Gallup Park
Gallup Park is one of the most popular recreation places in Ann Arbor. However, much of the park is under construction this year and the playground and some sections of the bike path may not be open during this year’s event. For information and a map of Gallup Park, go to:

Lodging
The nearest campgrounds are located in Ypsilanti and Brighton. There are several hotels and motels in the Ann Arbor area if you wish to stay overnight.
