Volunteering

People may be motivated to help animals for a variety of reasons, including:

Compassion and empathy
People may feel a caretaking instinct for all animals, and may want to prevent extinctions that could also negatively impact humans.

Ethical values
People may feel a sense of human responsibility for the climate crisis and mass extinction, and may want to act accordingly.

Feeling good

People may feel good about making a difference in an animal's life, and volunteering can be a rewarding experience.

Mental break
Volunteering can provide a mental break from everyday stresses.

Justice and compassion
Helping animals can be a moral and ethical choice that reflects a commitment to justice and compassion, and can help foster a more inclusive society.

In memory of Carol O'Toole and Mike Klee!

Each of them were long time volunteers that gave of themselves  to help better the lives of many dogs, both old and young, big and small!

Hello Dear Animal Rescues, Animal Advocates, Networkers and Lovers!

Tired of seeing stray dog and cat posts? Frustrated with how many healthy, young pets are being euthanized due to lack of space at shelters? Feeling helpless about the dire situations dogs and cats are put through day in and day out?  Want to find permanent solutions to the pet overpopulation crisis?

Well, here’s your chance to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Join the March/Rally for Animals at State Capitol, and DEMAND Systemic solutions to FIX THE Crisis ROOT CAUSES and Build More Support for Next Legislative Season:

  • Free Spay-Neuter Programs For Low Income Californians
  • Emergency State Funding to California Shelters For Spay- Neuter Services/Assistance
  • Stricter Illegal Breeding Laws and Enforcement
  • Stricter Animal Abandonment Laws
  • Statewide Spay-Neuter Mandate
  • Statewide Animals Identification and Registration Mandate
  • Tax Incentives for Californians with Adopted Spayed-Neutered Animals
  • Social Media Responsibility, State Regulations for Online Animal Sales
  • Transparency in Shelters operations - Mandate Animal Shelters to publish Monthly intakes, Euthanasia and Live Release rate.

Without Prioritizing PREVENTION - we are stuck in very costly efforts of dealing with animal overpopulation. Let's stand together to stop the disintegration of Animal Welfare in our State.

Preliminary Event Agenda ( 11am - 3 pm):

  1. Get together
  2. March on Capitol grounds ( please prepare and bring Signs, if possible. We are getting some signs mage as well)
  3. Visit Legislators offices ( walking distance from our event location)

1. If you plan to attend, it would be good to get in touch/contact your Legislator’s office ahead of time, to schedule a meeting with them. If you did not get a chance to schedule, it’s fine! Every legislator's office typically welcomes their constituents and listens to their requests. Their staff, who will speak to you, record the conversation and pass it to your elected officials. You can find  Legislators and Elected officials Contacts Here

Please check out What you can Do For Change for more points.

2. We also make it easier for you to reach out to legislators online to bring about the changes that are necessary to PUT AN END to the current pet overpopulation crisis.

Please, reach out directly, by sending messages to Legislative & Executive branches.  The more constituents reach out regarding their concerns – the more likely positive changes can be enacted.

The Following Campaigns are set up so you can easily reach both: your STATE Elected Officials AND your LOCAL Officials

State Funding to Provide Spay-Neuter Access to Communities
California Needs Stricter Illegal Breeders Laws and Regulations
Mandatory Animal Identification and Registration
Mandatory Spay-Neuter Legislation
Online Animal Sales Regulations Have to be Passed by Congress

3. If you travel from parts of California that are not close to Sacramento, and may be staying overnight, OR have extra time the next day - please consider supporting SB1459 ‘AS IT IS NOW’ at the Assembly Business and Professions Committee Hearing on June 25 morning. The Bill was supposed to give Shelters a pass in legally continuing to turn away community cats, but was amended in the Senate, after many advocates stepped up in  defense. Current law penalizes these actions and a proposed amendment was taken out. As the Bill reaches the Assembly, the portion related to community cats is very likely to be added back due to opposition pressure. There will be more details shared as we receive updates, please follow detailed updates by  Fix Our Shelters group  on this critical Legislation.

4. We prepared a Printable- Shareable Flyer that can be printed and shared at Rescue events, or electronically.

5. Please let us know, if you would like to speak at the Event, share your perspectives and inputs. Please share your ideas for more Campaigns.

6. Please SHARE the information on this Event among your animal loving friends, animal networkers, volunteers and community members. More updates and specifics to follow.

We are planning this event in collaboration with Veronica Golub, the animal advocate and networker from Apple Valley.

WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU THERE! We CAN Shift the TIDE if We Speak Together!

CARL's "Dog Of The Month"  chosen by Kai of CARL Adoptions Team

Lost and Found, reimagined!

Dear Elected Officials, City/County Staff, VCAS Commission, County Veterinarians, and Shelter Supporters,

We are excited to announce a substantial improvement to our county's lost and found program!  Beginning Friday, May 17th, 2024, we will be transitioning all lost and found reporting to Petco Love Lost, a centralized, nationwide lost and found database managed by Petco Love.

Petco Love Lost is a free, user-friendly, bilingual platform that scans lost and found animal photos uploaded by the public and VCAS, and matches them using facial recognition technology!  Other shelters currently using this platform have reported an increase in animals going home, and an overall reduction in stray animals entering their county shelters.  Since 80%-90% of VCAS animals come to us as lost, this could have a SUBSTANTIAL impact!  But for this to be effective, we need your help getting the word out!

Please forward the following to those who manage your social media and website.

Here are three (3) easy ways to help spread the word:

1.  Social Media - Copy & paste text and graphic below:

We're thrilled to share a game-changing advancement in our county’s effort to help reunite lost pets with their families! Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) has adopted the Petco Love Lost platform which utilizes facial recognition technology to match lost and found animals in our community and return them home quickly!

If you've lost or found a pet, visit www.vcas.us/LostAndFound to file a report using this free cutting-edge platform.  This tool hopes to revolutionize our county’s lost and found efforts, ensuring more pets find their way home faster than ever before!

Together, let's make a difference for our furry friends!

#PetcoLoveLost #LostAndFound #VenturaCountyAnimalServices

2.  Website - Choose one (1) or both options:

3.  Email - Copy & paste the email and graphics below to your constituents:

Dear Animal Lovers!

We are thrilled to share some exciting news!  Our friends at Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) have adopted a ground-breaking lost and found platform that utilizes facial recognition technology to help lost animals get home, faster!  And it's totally free!

Petco Love Lost is a centralized, nationwide, bilingual platform that scans lost and found pictures uploaded by you and the shelter, and alerts pet owners when a match has been found!  All you need to do is visit the shelter’s website www.vcas.us/LostAndFound to report an animal lost or found.

If everyone in Ventura County utilizes this centralized database for all lost and found activities, more animals will get home faster than ever before!

If you have any questions, please contact Ventura County Animal Services at info@vcas.us or (805) 388-4341.

Thank you!
