Welcome to the May edition of the Sun Prairie Media Center newsletter! Sure, we're all sneezing and have itchy eyes, but along with allergy symptoms comes beautiful weather for the multitude of activities here at SPMC. What's been keeping us busy? I'm glad you asked! Well...
KSUN Now & Life
Chamber Leadership Visits SPMC
In April the Sun Prairie Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class stopped by the Med ia Center to get a hands-on experience of what is all available at SPMC. Class participants had a chance to be on camera, behind the camera, on the radio and learned how to edit video. They took on all aspects of media production and did an excellent job. To see photos from this event, visit the photo gallery.
Dylan Ellefson Memorial Tree Thrives
We want to thank the Sun Prairie Public Library for helping us to preserve the memorial tree for Dylan Ellefson, a former participant, employee an d mentor to the KIDS4 program. Recently the library worked on relocating some of the trees on the property to prepare for the upcoming expansion project. They helped us move Dylan's tree and it is in a wonderful location in the front of the building where it can continue to thrive.
KIDS4 Happenings
That’s a Wrap!
During the final week of KIDS4 crew, April 22-25, the kids had the opportunity to sign the KIDS4 Wall of Fame, watch the videos they created and enjoyed eating ice cream and other treats. To see pictures from the final week of crew, visit the photo gallery.
The crews worked hard all year to produce original programming that can be viewed on KIDS-4. Some of the topics that the crews tackled included: interviews, newscasts, commercials, stop motion, radio and movie productions. As for the Thursday Night Live (TNL) group, they have been producing thirty-minute live shows since the beginning of the year for a total of eight hours of original programming!
The official end of the year event is the pizza party and that took place on Wednesday, May 1. This event is for KIDS4 kids who have recorded at least one event outside of the KIDS4 studios. Their recordings add to the programming that is featured on the KIDS4 channel. To see pics form the event, visit the photo gallery.
We want to thank all of the kids and families who participated this year for supporting the KIDS4 program. We hope to see you all back in the fall, if not sooner. For the students who are currently in eighth grade, we wish you well as you ‘graduate’ from the KIDS-4 program.
Spots Still Open in Media Center’s 2024 Summer Workshops!
You’re in luck . . . there is still room in the Sun Prairie Media Center summer workshops! Some workshops have filled, but there are plenty of great opportunities left to get your kids involved in the Media Center this summer.

If you know of someone aged 9-14 who loves to make videos, movies, or even podcasts and wants help taking their creativity to the next level, then you need to sign them up for these workshops.
Online registration is open now and will close on June 14. But hurry – these classes are filling fast! More information and online registration is available at kids4.tv.
These workshops are designed for budding journalists, filmmakers, actors, and social media influencers who want a fun and creative way to express themselves. Participants will be introduced to media production in a fun, hands-on learning environment that is conveniently located – the Media Center is in the same building as the public library.
Discounted rates for SPMC members are available. More information on memberships is available at sunprairiemediacenter.com/memberships. Scholarships are also available.
See you at the Media Center this summer!
103.5 The Sun Highlights
Baseball and Softball Coverage
We continue to air Sun Prairie East and West baseball and softball home games here on 103.5 The Sun. Foul weather has and will throw curveballs into the schedule, but we're working to ensure all baseball and softball teams get a fair number of broadcasts. We hope you all continue to enjoy the fantastic announcing from Tim Perko, Steve Sabatke, Marc Carstens, Steve Rhoads (a SPMC West softball parent), and Bill Baker.
Remote Opportunities
SPMC will release a list of 103.5 The Sun remote broadcast opportunities in the next few days. This is a great way to head outside and represent SPMC and have fun interacting with the community. Whether you've done hundreds of these remotes, or are thinking of trying your first one, all are encouraged to sign up. Training will be provided. The majority of the events are through the City of Sun Prairie, but if there is a public event you would like to broadcast from that isn't on the list, please email Colin and we'll see what can be sorted.

Hey there! I’m Trulyme from Trulymethisisme podcast! I started volunteering my time and wisdom and of course my life with SPMC last year in September. I believe, and I know that this world we live in can be challenging (I know I have had more than my share), we can overcome them. I have! I’m a living testament to many things, however I am here! So I want to share the fact that I realized true love and peace starts from within. So if I can encourage and uplift others, I thought maybe I can reach more people and encourage healing and self love in my community. I enjoy learning the ropes and behind the scenes as well. It’s been fun! - Tiniki Powell.
