The power of communications
Dear Parents/Carers
Communications between school and home form a vital part of the positive partnership that supports our students, your children, in getting the very most out of their education at John Hanson.
You will be aware that earlier this week we launched the Parent Portal communications module of Arbor as the next stage in our migration of management information systems from our previous provider to Arbor.
Thank you to the 67% of you who have signed up in just a few days. For those of you who have not yet done so, please sign up ASAP.
In the next few weeks we will send regular reminders to parents/carers in order that we have as close to 100% sign up as possible.
The intention is to move all communications to the Arbor Parent Portal ASAP. Therefore, please sign up ASAP in order that you do not miss vital communications related to your child and their education.
Enjoy the weekend with your children.
Regards
Russell Stevens

We are pleased to be displaying another special book this week in the LRC.
“The Glitch – Tales from the Quill” features the writing talents of four creative John Hanson School students. The book is an anthology of 100-word stories, showcasing the vivid imaginations of today’s young writers.
Congratulations again to all of you that took part, you really did yourselves proud.
The Shakespeare Quotes Quiz and Word Search has now concluded, and our three winning students have been to the LRC to collect their book prizes. Well done to those that took part; your knowledge of the Bard was impressive.
The next Book Giveaway is scheduled for Tuesday 21st May in the Courtyard. These events are incredibly popular, so please think of us if you have any books in a good condition that you would like to donate for LRC stock or Book Giveaway events. Please bring any contributions to the LRC or place in the box in Reception.

At John Hanson Community School we are committed to providing equality of opportunity for all students and staff, and to providing a working environment free from discrimination, prejudice and harassment.
We encourage respect and consideration for others, and recognise and value the school as a safe place for learning. The staff at John Hanson recognise that inequalities exist in all levels of society and believe, that as educators, we have a crucial role to play in eliminating all forms of discrimination, in particular against anyone with any of the protected characteristic. We promote equality by dealing with bullying and incidents of discrimination immediately and by educating the young people in our care through assemblies, tutor time, PSHE day sessions and group work where appropriate.
This is part of our responsibility in preparing our students for life after school.
Important EDI events over the next week:
13th-20th Mental Health Awareness Week
Words you might not know:
Everyone has 'mental health', just as we all have 'physical health'. And like our physical health, there are times when our mental health is better than others. We all know prevention is better than cure, so understanding our own mental health is really important. .
It is when the world comes together on the 8th of March to celebrate women's achievements and reinforce a commitment to women's equality The DEI team will be producing one of these every term for you and your parents to read through – if you have any ideas for content please see Mrs Curtis, Mrs Ferris or Mrs Grinstead.
Please encourage your son/daughter to use their SCHOOL EMAIL for work rather than their own private email. This is important for safeguarding and also some of our messages for students are being sent to school email addresses.
