The County of Monterey released the Draft 6th Cycle Housing Element for a 30-Day public review and comment period on May 6th. State law requires that all local governments adequately plan to meet the housing needs of everyone in the community. The 6th Cycle Housing Element is the County's plan to meet this obligation. It covers a period of 8 years (January 1 2024 – December 31, 2032) and addresses a variety of topics related to housing and homelessness and it must, at a minimum, provide a plan that meets the 3,326 units required in the unincorporated county through the most recent Regional Housing Needs Allocation process.
Several public workshops, where you can give feedback in-person or online, are being offered, including:
May 15, 2024 during the Monterey County Planning Commission meeting
May 20, 2024 during a joint meeting of the County Board's Health, Housing and Human Services Committee and Housing Advisory Committee sincerely hope you will get involved in the discussion. This plan will guide the County's approach to housing development for years to come.
June 4, 2024 during the Board of Supervisor's meeting
Email GeneralPlanUpdates@co.monterey.ca.us with the subject "Housing Element" to request additional information on how to join any of theses workshops.
I have also requested County Housing and Community Development Staff make information available to our district at other times and locations. I will share details on when and where as soon as I am able.
The review period ends on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
I sincerely hope you will share your thoughts on the draft plan, as it will influence the growth in our county for years to come.
