The Legacy League has named 5 of the 10 Acting General Manager (“A.G.M.”) positions available. They will begin their first day on the job Monday, June 3rd, after having their initial and first Legacy League meetings tomorrow (May 31st).
“This is an exciting time for all of us as we embark on a journey that we hope never ends, with 10 Legacy League Teams located in and around Mississippi’s Capital City of Jackson. We’ve been in contact with a number of the Mayors representing local municipalities Madison, Clinton, Pearl, Jackson, Vicksburg, Brandon, and several others, and now we have a team of students from the Mississippi Gulf Coast up to Starkville representing schools such as Alcorn State University, University of Southern Mississippi, Mississippi State University and even local High Schools Jackson Prep and Madison Central and these students will now begin learning the inner workings and behind the scenes mechanics of what it takes to manage a Minor League Team albeit at the Collegiate level”
– says Tim Bennett, Legacy League Commissioner
The students were chosen after a one-month process of communicating and structuring the Legacy League fellowship program with Professors from numerous N.C.A.A. institutions and interviews with each student in preparation for and in continuation of their desire to further their education in sports management and to be a part of the next generation of leaders in professional management.
Mississippi will lose one of its two MLB-affiliated teams, the Atlanta Braves (A.A.) Mississippi Braves, following the 2024 season after a successful 20-year run at Trustmark Park, seeing the team win 2 Southern League Titles while serving as the catalyst for Billions of Dollars in economic impact in Pearl, MS. This departure is what will open the way for the Legacy League to thrive in a talent-rich environment such as is offered by the State of Mississippi and the entire Southeastern Region of the United States where athleticism dominates.
Mississippi is a unique State with 3 Division I (H.B.C.U.) Universities in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (S.W.A.C.) with Jackson State, Alcorn State, Mississippi Valley State, and 3 Division I Universities with the Southeastern Conference (S.E.C.) Schools, the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University, and representing the Sun Belt Conference, the University of Southern Mississippi. There are 38 colleges in Mississippi with over 156,000 students enrolled, giving the Legacy League a vibrant and fertile landscape of support for the fellowship program and baseball players to participate in the summer developmental baseball league.
The Legacy League will continue interviewing students for the remaining positions in the upcoming weeks. Meanwhile, the initial A.G.M.s will take on all responsibilities until those hires are made.
