June programs at Camp Hancock State Historic Site
BISMARCK, N.D. – Enjoy free interactive learning programs at Camp Hancock State Historic Site in Bismarck. All ages welcome. Day cares and summer camps are encouraged to attend. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Cookies and lemonade will be served as well.
June 7 Stomp Rockets, 1-3 p.m. Did you know that during the solar eclipse, NASA sent rockets into the atmosphere to get a closer look? Rockets have a variety of uses. They can even be used to monitor the weather! Build your own rockets and launch them using stomp pads.
June 14 Flag Day, 1-3 p.m. Flag Day is celebrated every June 14 to honor the day the United States flag was adopted. Let’s take a closer look at different versions of the American flag since the founding of our country, then create a flag to take home.
June 21 Train Whistles, 1-3 p.m. Investigate the 1909 Northern Pacific Locomotive on exhibit. Make your own train whistle.
June 28 Rain Gauges, 1-3 p.m. Camp Hancock was a weather station for the U.S. Weather Bureau from 1894 to 1939. Look at the weather instruments on display, including a rain gauge used to collect data. Assemble your own rain gauge.
Camp Hancock State Historic Site, 101 E. Main Ave. in Bismarck, is managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota.
