National Travel & Tourism Week: VLC Forum Recap at Volo Museum

On Thursday, May 23, Visit Lake County hosted a gathering at the Volo Museum to celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW). This event brought together community and industry leaders, partner businesses and local attractions to highlight the significant impact of travel on the local and national economies.

The event began with networking and light refreshments, followed by welcome remarks from VLC President Maureen Riedy and Volo Museum Marketing Director Jim Wojdyla. Many wore red for a group photo to commemorate the occasion.

As a part of NTTW, Riedy and VLC honored three individuals as Lake County Hospitality Heroes - Karma Pub server Carmela Perea of the DoubleTree Hotel Libertyville-Mundelein, Lincolnshire Marriott Resort Senior Event Planner Stacey Freeman and Homewood Suites Lincolnshire Front Office Jamie Perdomo.

Perea was also recognized  as one of the "Seven Faces of Tourism" selected by the Illinois Office of Tourism (IOT) during NTTW. She was featured on IOT's website and social media.

Attendees were then invited to tour the museum's attractions including the Titanic Exhibit, Jurassic Gardens, Hollywood Collection and more. This celebration underscored the positive impact of travel, emphasizing its role in enriching lives, fueling the economy and creating thriving communities.
