“Ancient Steps to Repair the World”

Jewish teachings are rich with teachings about forgiveness, the Theme of the Month. However, the most important teachings may be repairing relationships and engaging in repentance.

The Share the Plate Recipient for May, is Tree Pittsburgh

Tree Pittsburgh celebrates 18 years of growing and protecting our urban forest through tree planting, care, education, advocacy, and land conservation. The organization works to ensure all people have equal access to the many benefits that trees provide by directing resources where they are needed the most. As the impact of climate change grows, cities are particularly vulnerable to rising temperatures and severe weather events.  Tree Pittsburgh has collaborated with communities to plant nearly 60,000 trees, distribute more than 25,000 to County residents, graduate over 3,000 residents from its Tree Tender course, and continues to grow more than 30,000 trees annually in its Heritage Nursery located in Lawrenceville. Learn more about how to get involved at http://www.treepittsburgh.org/

A Message from Rev. Kate

I am delighted to share the news with our whole community that we will have a ministerial intern beginning August 19. Mac Perkins-High will be with us full time for nine months and is moving from the Boston area. Mac, using he/they pronouns, has provided a short introduction below.

The funding for this internship comes from a variety of sources, including a 50% matching grant from the UUA, our own Endowment and some unused funds.

After Mac arrives, we will develop a Learning-Service Agreement, specifying what areas Mac needs/wants to focus on. In August, please help me welcome Mac into our community.

Cheers, Rev. Kate

From Your Art Committee
This is the last week to see the art exhibit in the Undercroft Gallery. If you have yet to view the exquisite Tazhib work of Iranian artist, Rahil Sahraei, be sure to check it out. It you want to own a piece for yourself, talk to Ali. Many thanks to Rahil and to Ali who arranged to be sure all the work was framed and all was shipped to us from Iran in time for our April-May Art Exhibit.
Next month - starting June 1, Miguel Hoyas will be gracing us with his very colorful paintings. Miguel was with us in November 1922. My recollection is that Miguel’s work brought a smile to my face. Be sure to visit the Undercroft in June - even when coffee hour is in the garden.
