EARTHWORKS UPDATE
The team from Vernon Developments has significantly altered the landscape to accommodate the construction of a new gymnasium and three Rugby fields. Excavation work on the hill behind Te Poho and land leveling is underway to create space for the #1 Field and a double-court gymnasium. These modifications aim to ensure top-notch quality for the projects while preserving the stunning natural scenery surrounding our Kura.
We have initiated a new project to relocate the Ihaka house to a new space where it will be elevated and restored. The house will be moved to the West of the property, beyond the existing rugby fields. This relocation is part of our efforts to create a welcoming and attractive environment for a prospective staff member at TIPENE.
As we move through the stages of our many EarthWorks projects, we will try our best to keep you informed. For more photos, videos, and articles head to our Facebook Page linked below.

Build and Restoration Progress
TIPENE is being built in stages as seen in the table below this article.
Te Poho o TIPENE, the central and historic building within Te Pā ō TIPENE, is still undergoing the installation of windows at the front and center of the building. Once the window installation is complete, the next step will be external painting with roofing to be completed in 2026 once structural sign-off is received. We have also started seeking professional advice and quotes for the New Clock for Te Poho, once the clock is installed and live it's a sign the school is alive once again!
Whitiora (Junior Hostel & Wharekai) is in the final stages of completion with the installation of the plumbing system now completed and a few final touches. This includes all furnishings for the future Tāuira.
Exterior works continue on the East block, painting of exterior walls have commenced this week and the roofing over the patio is being framed and ply completed. Waterproofing to start before roofing is installed.
On level 1 East block, the framing of shear walls, electrical wiring for lighting, and plumbing will commence soon. Following this, the installation of insulation for walls and roof, as well as the ceiling tiles. On the Ground floor, the demolition of the brick wall near the south entry and the installation of steel beam and post will begin.
The installation of new windows and doors in the back common rooms of both the East Wing and West Wing has been completed. Exterior preparation for painting has commenced.
Staff housing projects are progressing both internally and externally. The installation of heat pumps has commenced, while upgrades to the new kitchen, flooring, and bathrooms are almost finished, requiring only minor finishing touches.
We are progressing well towards the scheduled installation dates. We will continue to provide you with further updates and visuals.

Heke Rika rāua ko Kia Rika
Heke Rika and Kia Rika
1935 - 1941
|
|
|
This week, we met Dallas and her husband Ewen, who generously donated two photos dating back to the years 1935-1941, during Mr. William C. Morris' tenure as Headmaster.
Dallas has strong family connections to TIPENE | St Stephen's and Queen Victoria through her paternal lineage, with her father and his siblings, as well as her brothers, all having attended the school. It was a cherished tradition for the boys in the Rika whānau to receive their education at TIPENE. Dallas fondly recounts how her father held a deep affection for the school and desired to uphold the tradition by sending his sons there. She also shared stories about her brothers' experiences at the school, highlighting the memorable moments and challenges they faced. Like many others, her brothers navigated both highs and lows during their time at the kura, yet they looked back on those years as some of the most fulfilling in their lives.
Dallas mentioned - "My brother visited from Los Vagas after the closure of the St Stephen's, and one thing he wanted to do was see the School. As we entered the gate and drove through the grounds, a wave of emotion overcame us both, leading to tears at the sight of the school once again."
Dallas and Ewen will both be attending the opening Pōwhiri in September in support of her whānau and traditions. Thank you Dallas for donating two beautiful photos to our Kura, and for sharing those beautiful moments with us here at TIPENE.
