UR Nursing to Host First Experiential Learning Summit

The inaugural Experiential Learning Summit, A Journey of Discovery in Nursing Education, will delve into the latest advances in nursing education, mobile learning, simulation, and more with national experts on June 6 and 7. There will also be a networking session and workshop for Apple Distinguished Schools of Nursing on Saturday, June 8. Learn more and register.

Several School of Nursing faculty, staff, and students will be recognized at the URMC Center for Community Health & Prevention's 15th annual Dr. David Satcher Community Health Improvement Awards and Grand Rounds on Friday, May 31.
- Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing Maria Quiñones-Cordero, PhD, was named the Junior Faculty Awardee.
- The University's partnership with East High School is this year's Team Awardee. This includes the School of Nursing's "NursEAST" career exploration course. The class is led by Master's in Nursing Education (MNE) Program Director Maria Marconi, EdD, RN, CNE, with coordination from master's programs administrator Jeanette Hunt, and taught by MNE alumna Caitlyn Paris-Woods '23N (MS). - Professor of Clinical Nursing Susan Blaakman, PhD, RN, PMHNP-BC, FNAP, FAAN, spoke to In Good Health about preventing burnout in nursing. "Seek help when you need it," she said. "When you have intense feelings, don’t push them away but embrace them and understand what’s happening in your body physiologically."
- Four Class of 2024 graduates spoke to News 8 about their successes, future goals, and addressing the nursing shortage.
- Dean Lisa Kitko, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN, spoke to Health Policy Watch about the importance of investing in the nursing workforce. “It’s essential to recognize the economic value that nurses bring to health care organizations through their expertise, skills, and contributions to patient outcomes,” she said.
- Assistant Professor Jinjiao Wang, PhD, RN, spoke to In Good Health about the risks of polypharmacy. “Do not be afraid to have an open discussion with your providers, if you have questions or concerns about your medications or simply wonder if some of your medications are still needed,” Wang said.
