When Sin Reigns

by Ricky Chelette, Executive Director

<<First Name>>,

Do you sin? If you’re being honest, the answer is yes (1 John 1:10). If you deny it, you’re not being truthful with yourself (1 John 1:8). We all, without exception, grapple with sin in our lives.

I understand that these words can be hard to accept. I struggle with them, too. It’s not easy to admit that I’m not perfect, that I sin, or that I rebel against God’s ways and will. But the truth is, according to the Bible, we all do (Romans 3:23). We’re all in bondage to sin from which we cannot free ourselves on our own (Romans 6:16).

If that sounds hopeless, it is, at least in human terms. But the (read the rest of the story)

The Higher Calling In Rowing Against The Current

by Bruno Borges,Men’s Minister

Among the things our guys regularly mention is that they are tired of fighting against their unwanted attractions. Regardless of how well they are walking with the Lord, the struggle is still there from time to time, like a constant pull. The feeling of tiredness can be extremely discouraging and make it difficult to assess if this Jesus path is even worthwhile. There is a constant question of whether guys with opposite-sex attraction find it easier than those struggling with same-sex attraction. To make things more difficult, the world's message in this matter does not help.

I have experienced those unwanted pulls and temptations occasionally, and I know the temptations these men suffer. However, the challenge (read the rest of the story)

Finding Camaraderie, Companionship, and Understanding

I was already a Christian when I discovered Living Hope, but I felt like I couldn't be completely honest with my friends and Bible study group about my struggles. I began to feel very alone, fighting a silent battle every day. Watching all my friends get married off made me feel even lonelier. I knew I needed to seek out a support group tailored to me, but the ones I first found seemed to prefer encouraging me in my sinful desires and denied God's teachings. They tried to convince me that God would want me to be happy in a homosexual relationship. It was tiring. It's like they were trying to keep me from God.

Living Hope Ministries has helped me by providing a community of like-minded individuals dedicated to the same goal - following Jesus faithfully. The accountability sessions after each sermon are the most beneficial aspect of Living Hope for me. Having multiple people with different experiences regarding same-sex attractions offers a problem-solving approach to spiritual warfare that I could not hope to handle on my own. We share advice, practices, and stories about combating temptation with the purpose of helping others grow in their faith.

My experience with Living Hope has been full of truth, understanding, and the Lord's promise that He has not turned His back on me like I've done to Him in the past. God has been very, very patient with me and gifted me a community of people who genuinely care about me. LHM has helped quell my desire for a homosexual relationship as I have realized it was a deep sense of camaraderie, companionship, and understanding that I was ultimately seeking. Unfortunately, I romanticized the idea of friendship and became convinced that a lustful relationship would fix my longing. My heart was missing Jesus, and these guys at Living Hope helped me find Him.

Young Men Finding Freedom and Hope!

For more than a decade, LHM has offered a highly accountable discipleship house for young men needing a reset and time to deal with their struggles. However, we have recently seen a decline in the number of young men seeking help. We don’t believe it is because there is a lack of need; rather, they do not know this resource is available. Will you help us get the word out to young men in your church and circles of influence?

The Hope House is for young men between 18-26 who are interested in a highly accountable discipleship house to grow in their understanding of what it means to be a man of God. Life change happens when we are intentional. Find out more about the LHM Hope House.
