‘Trailblazer Series’ launches summer of discovery at Fort Mandan State Historic Site
WASHBURN, N.D. – The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and Fort Mandan State Historic Site are excited to announce their “Trailblazer Series” beginning Wednesday, June 5, 9-10 a.m. at the Fort Mandan Visitor Center in Washburn. This 17-week series meets Wednesdays through Sept. 25, with new programs announced monthly. These fun programs and presentations offer hands-on learning for all ages.
June 5 Bubble Art Postcards, 9-10 a.m. Decorate your own postcard using bubble art. You’re welcome to bring your own white T-shirts, blankets, or towels to decorate.
June 12 Bird Watching Nature Walk, 9-10 a.m. Head out on a birding adventure along the trail at Fort Mandan. Binoculars, a bird guide, and a field journal will be supplied.
June 19 Where the Buffalo Roam, 9-10 a.m. Join in the conversation during this lecture about the bison’s ecological impact on the northern Plains.
June 26 Fur Trade Travois, 9-10 a.m. Build a travois like ones used by fur traders to transport loads of goods over land. Once constructed, test your travois in an obstacle course.
The programs are included with your daily admission fee or free to State Historical Society of North Dakota Foundation members.
Fort Mandan State Historic Site and the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center are managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota.
