Nursing Scholars Program Renewed for Additional Three Years at Strong Memorial Hospital

The Nursing Scholars program covers tuition costs for bachelor's students who agree to a three-year work commitment at participating UR Medicine hospitals after passing the NCLEX-RN®. This extension will support an additional 300 aspiring nurses who pursue their bachelor's through the Scholars program. Read more.

Recognizing Our Retirees: Karen Stein

As she prepares to retire this summer, Karen Stein, PhD, RN, FAAN, hopes to leave a legacy of commitment to the nursing discipline and high-quality nursing research that helps vulnerable communities. She is a distinguished nurse researcher known for her extensive work studying health risk behaviors among adolescents and young adults, as well as Western New York's farm worker community. Recognizing Our Retirees: Craig Sellers

Craig Sellers, PhD, RN, AGPCNP-BC, GNP-BC, FAANP, has dedicated more than four decades to the field of nursing as an educator, researcher, and specialty director of the adult master’s practitioner programs at the School of Nursing. His extensive work in primary and palliative care for individuals with HIV/AIDS and older adults has established him as an expert in qualitative research methods, which he has imparted to his students over the years. Honors & Awards

Assistant Professor Lauren Ghazal, PhD, FNP-BC, was named the 2024 Advanced Practice Trailblazer at Healio's Innoative Disruptor Awards. Nominator shared that Ghazal is quickly making a name for herself in the oncology community as a voice for adolescent cancer survivors — being a survivor herself — and also for oncology nurses through her expertise on nursing workforce issues. PhD student Yu-Ching (Katie) Yang, a 2023 Heilbrunn Nurse Scholar, presented her dissertation study, "Nurses Intuition: Implicit Memory Activation in Clinical Practice," as part of the Heilbrunn Nurse Scholar Program's 10th Anniversary celebration at The Rockefeller University in New York City. Yang's research seeks to identify biomarkers of nurses’ non-conscious cognitive processes in clinical practice by utilizing neurocognitive theories. Read more.
