2024 FESTIVAL THEME ANNOUNCED

As PTFF embarks on its milestone 25th anniversary, we are thrilled to announce the 2024 festival theme: “On the Journey.” This evocative theme encapsulates the spirit of our quarter-century celebration, inviting us to reflect on the remarkable path we’ve traveled since our first Film Festival in 2000. “On the Journey” pays homage to the diverse films, filmmakers, and cinephiles who have been an integral part of our story, while also setting our sights on the exciting chapters that lie ahead.

The theme resonates deeply with the rich history of this region, a place that has long been a significant waypoint for travelers and residents across time. Our picturesque Port Townsend embodies the essence of being “on the journey.” This theme will be woven throughout the 2024 festival experience, from visually striking design elements to carefully curated film selections, inviting attendees to contemplate their own journeys and the collective odyssey of the art of cinema.

Glad you are with us on this journey!

2024 FESTIVAL POSTER UNVEILED

2024 Port Townsend Film Festival PosterPTFF is excited to unveil our poster for the 2024 Film Festival, created by artist Michelle Hagewood. Michelle’s vision captures the ingenuity and adventure of filmmakers who traverse extreme environments to create incredible films. Her design, featuring anthropomorphic camera-creatures making their way to the festival, celebrates the spirit of the theme “On the Journey.”

About the design, Michelle says: “The concept started with a fascination and appreciation for the ingenuity and sense of adventure witnessed in filmmakers who traverse extreme environments and leverage technology to make incredible films possible. I’ve also just always loved playing with the anthropomorphic quality of machinery and value rigorous discussion around technology and art-making.”

Michelle Hagewood, a Port Townsend-based artist, has exhibited nationally and created the short animated film “The Path” and the experimental picture book “WHIRL.” Learn more about her work at MichelleHagewood.com

NEW FILM LAURELS UNVEILED

In its 25th year, PTFF kicks off a new era with the unveiling of fresh film laurels designed by local artist Jordan Lucas. Departing from the traditional laurel leaf motif, these new laurels are crafted from the imagery of bull kelp, a keystone species of the Pacific Northwest's coastal ecosystems.

Executive Director Danielle McClelland notes, “This design pays homage to the festival’s seaside roots and reflects PTFF’s quirky charm and deep connection to the local environment. We’d like these laurels to remind our filmmaker recipients that their achievements are now part of an ecosystem that nurtures creativity, fosters growth, and celebrates the resilience and adaptability inherent in both nature and the art of filmmaking.”

Behind the Scenes of the Winning Screenplay, Glampire

Jordan Lucas and Winda Benedetti share a decade-long friendship and creative collaboration. Their journey began at PopCap Games in downtown Seattle, where Jordan served as an art director and Winda as a narrative designer. Together, they crafted whimsical characters and captivating stories for games like “Plants vs Zombies: Heroes” and “Solitaire Blitz.”

Their synergy extended beyond video games. Collaborating on short-form comic stories for the annual anthology Monsterpedia, they explored darker themes while infusing moments of whimsy and humor. The roots of Glampire trace back to a short comic called “Revamped,” originally published in the 2018 issue of Monsterpedia.

Jordan LucasJordan Lucas

Jordan’s artistic life has always been about one thing: telling stories. Jordan has been a visual storyteller since the day he could pick up a pencil. Despite getting in trouble for drawing on his math homework, he never stopped. This pastime eventually led to a career in the arts.

He got his start as a professional animator and concept artist working in the video game industry. A few of his standout projects are the “Sly Cooper” series, “Plants vs Zombies,” and “Bejeweled.” Accompanying that, he’s helped create art for tabletop games, namely “Dungeon Craft” and “Build Your Own Adventure” games.

Throughout his 30s, Jordan authored a comic book series titled “Hominids.” Jordan has also been an adjunct teacher, and most recently worked as a storyboard artist on the animated Disney series “Pupstruction.” When Jordan isn’t at work, he loves running on the beach, hitting up the PT Farmers Market, and can be found at Uptown Pub from time to time. You can find Jordan on Instagram @jordanlucasarts

Winda BenedettiWinda Benedetti

Winda Benedetti is a mother of two and an avid traveler. She’s been a professional writer of one sort or another her entire adult life. Winda got her start as a newspaper crime reporter, spent time as a rock music critic, moved on to work for several national news sites covering video games and technology, then veered into screenwriting before arriving at her current career as a video game writer, narrative designer, and voice lead.

Winda has spent the last six years working at Nintendo, where she’s written for best-selling games such as “Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom,” and “Animal Crossing: New Horizons.” At the end of the day, she loves all forms of storytelling and feels especially fortunate to have found such a multi-talented and inspiring creative partner in Jordan.

Congratulations to Jordan Lucas and Winda Benedetti on their excellent achievement!
