Fun, Sun, Sand, and Supporting Rescue Dogs!
 

Gather your family and furry best friend and head over to beautiful Ventura for the 24th Annual Pooch Parade!

CARL (Canine Adoption and Rescue League} will host the 24th Annual Pooch Parade on Sunday, August 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Join C.A.R.L. and its adoptable rescue dogs for a day of fun in the sun at Ventura Harbor Village, 1583 Spinnaker Drive in Ventura. This year’s theme is “Fun, Sun, Sand, and Supporting Rescue Dogs!” And if you’re inclined, dress yourself and your pup up in the most fun beach inspired wear you can find! 

Your dog can be a star in the Pooch Parade. For a fee, be a solo walker with your dog, or be a team of walkers of 4 plus walkers with dogs! All walkers and teams receive goody bags and Pooch Parade t-shirts. The solo walker and the team that donates the most, get a prize. Tell your friends, family, co-workers and employers your walking in the "CARL 24th Pooch Parade and are accepting donations!

Interested in being an event sponsor or vendor? Sponsorship fee levels with perks, and vendor & non-profits booths are available, dog contests and much more! Most importantly; it will be a dogs, dogs, and more dogs DAY!

May gray turned to June gloom, but our volunteers were still on-site with their fur babies at their monthly event at Sailor and Friends Pet Supply on Main Street in Ventura. Led by Toni, she was assisted by Terry, Karen, Brenda, Christina, Jose and Kathy. Our fur babies in attendance were Anubis, Lucky Girl, Sugar Bear, Nellie, Mondo, Duke, Cutie Potootie and Joy. We welcome new volunteer Karen. Volunteers, fosters, new parents and donations are always appreciated. Lucky Girl got adopted! We represent CARL. We believe in saving lives…one dog at a time! Our events are the first Saturday of every month at Sailor and Friends. Our next events at Sailor and Friends are scheduled for Saturday July 6, 2024 and Saturday August 3, 2024. We hope to see you there!

Yesterday was Senior Sunday at Skunkmasters, Maddie and Maybell were the stars of the show.
Jill & I was just the old gals. Both Maddie and Maybell are so sweet and people really enjoyed
meeting them.  We have a Sunday regular that stops by to see us and who we've brought.
Maybe one day......  One of the security guards brought his dog Max to work so they 3 of them hung out together. It is always a fun day visiting with staff and customers. We will be back Sunday July 7th. Saturday June 15th we will be in Ojai at NextHome Pacific Coast Realty from 11-2. They are located at 307 E. Matilija Street #A. We did an open house a few years ago there.

 The Volunteers were Sharon, Terry, Dee and Kai. The dogs were Santi, Snuggles, Cutie, Joy and Jasper! The Deep Sea Wine Tasting adopted CARL dog Poppy, and named a wine "Poppy's Rescue Red" in his honor. 100% of the sale of each glass of "Poppy's Rescue Red" was donated to CARL!  Thank you Deep Sea Wine for the fundraiser and adoption event

  • July 14: Dog on a Lead Day. Launched by the UK’s Best Behaviour Dog Training, this pet holiday emphasizes the importance of walking your dog on a leash and respecting on-leash dogs.
  • July 15: National Pet Fire Safety Day. Sponsored by the The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), ADT Security Services and the American Kennel Club® (AKC).
  • July 15: Feline Leukemia Day. Community Cats Podcast and Feline Leukemia advocacy supporter Margaret Tompkins hosts this annual online event with important expert information on this disease, ways to manage it and adoption of FeLV+ cats.
  • July 21: World Collie Day.
  • July 21: National Craft for Your Local Shelters Day. Regardless of your crafting skills, you can create items that will be joy and comfort to pets waiting for their forever homes in animal shelters.
  • July 21: No Pet Store Puppies Day. As part of the ongoing effort to end the suffering inflicted upon dogs through the puppy mill pipeline, the ASPCA declared July 21 No Pet Store Puppies Day. 
  • July 22: AAHA-Accredited Hospital Day or AAHA Day. A day that celebrates facilities accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association.
  • July 26: National Dog Photography Day. UK holiday.

The Adoptions Team volunteers help at the Adoption Center, Mobile Events, Private Companies events, Pet Care Center & Foster Care. We have adoption events all over Ventura County from Port Hueneme to Newbury Park. They are held on Saturdays &  Sundays at different locations. Volunteer orientations are now being conducted online. After completely filing out the CARL volunteer application VOLUNTEER APPLICATION. You will be contacted by email to attend an online orientation, presented by a CARL volunteer via Zoom.
