Remember the storm references in the last newsletter? Well, it's here, and it's a sight to behold...
The library expansion groundbreaking took place on June 11 and after all the co ffee, fruit, and abundance of donuts was consumed, construction vehicles fired up and commenced digging. As a result, the Media Center lost access to our typical entrance.
Thanks to the library and IT department, we were able to create a new set up for access to the Media Center so we could continue to serve the community from day one. They made signage to clearly direct foot traffic. Many of our regular volunteer producers are now familiar with the routine for getting into SPMC, but let's take a moment to teach all of you.
If you come to the Media Center during our normal office hours (8:30-5p.m. Mondays-Fridays) here's how you'll enter the Media Center through the library.
- Go through the main library entrance (both sets of doors).
- In the foyer, go to the Community Room on the left-hand side. There are signs showing the way. It should be unlocked. If it is locked, call SPMC or ask a library staff person to let you in.
- Follow the Media Center signs through the kitchen. You'll reach a large solid door that says Media Center. The handle WILL NOT turn. Just push it open.
If you come after hours for a show, you will need to contact us to check out a key.
Thank you in advance to everyone for your flexibility during the construction phase of this project.
KIDS4 Happenings
KIDS4 Crew Registration Opens
KIDS4 registration opened for the 2024-2025 crew year on June 1st for returning KIDS4 kids and their siblings. Priority registration for this group is open through the month of July. Starting on August 1, new KIDS4 kids will have the opportunity to register for the program.
The KIDS4 media literacy program is open to students who will be in 4th through 8th gr ade during the upcoming school year. As always, space is limited for this program, we recommend registering sooner rather than later to save your spot. For more information or if you have questions, please contact staff@sunprairiemediacenter.com.
To stay connected with the KIDS4 program, visit kids4.tv or follow ‘Sun Prairie Media Center’ on Facebook and Instagram.
Summer Workshops Are Rolling
KIDS4 is staying busy in the upcoming month with Summer Workshops taking place each week. These workshops are designed for budding journalists, filmmakers, actors, and social media influencers who want a fun and creative way to express themselves.
Participants will be introduced to media production in a fun, hands-on learning environment right at the Media Center. The projects that are created in the workshops will air on KIDS4. Each participant will be provided a link to their project to view at home with their families.
We look forward to seeing what is created at KIDS4 over the summer months!

Check Out Our Spring/Summer Remote Opportunities
Although weather impeded upon some of our summer remotes, there are still plenty more opportunities to get out and represent the Media Center on the radio!
Specifically, we're looking for people to cover the upcoming Parks, Recreation and Forestry's Adult Recess on Friday, July 19th from 6-8p.m.and the National Night Out on August 1st from 6-8p.m.On top of that, there are plenty more opportunities to check out. We're still working to finalize the hours for Corn Fest, so be sure to check the SignUp Genius often! We'd especially like to encourage volunteers who have never participated in a remote to consider signing up. We will provide all necessary training. If there is a public event you would like to broadcast from that isn't on the list, please email Colin and we'll see what can be sorted.
